What are the best HSF's for quiet cooling?
 

We're building a dual Athlon MP system. Since the new XP MP chips have the palamino core in them they cool much easier then the older thunderbirds, so we're not terribly concerned about having something that is extra cool (just as long as it keeps it cool and is reliable). Anyway, theres gonna be a lot of fans in here, so we're looking for the quietest ones possible. Any ideas? Also, links to where they can be found would be most helpful. Thanks mucho! :D

Thanks for the reply. That's a very interesting cooler. However it is a bit on the pricy side and it states that it shouldn't be put in machines that will be moved around (for lanning, etc). That's exactly what we will be doing with this machine. It is going to be a dedicated server for LAN parties.

Perhaps aa Alpha PAL8035 with a Panaflow 80mm fan? This would be very quiet and cool very well.

you could also try an SK6 with a lower RPM fan...

Also, no idea if this would work but you could try making a shroud for the SK6 by putting some duct tape on each side (making sure to only do the top half). That might increase the efficiency

Do you mean pal8045? That's the one that's 80x80mm. I got one, and unless you're laying this motherboard flat (as in, desktop case), for a dual system I'd be scared of bending and breaking the motherboard from the weight. Check with AMD to see what they say.

pal8045 is an excellent cooler, though - with a cheapo low RPM fan, it's keeping it cooler than my old FOP32. I'm thinking about ducting a 92mm fan on there, even though ducts don't work great... with my AXP 1800+ I'm sure it'll work fine. :)

motherboards can take quite a bit of weight without breaking, I don;t think there's been a HSF made that's too heavy for the m/b yet.

Well, the heavy sinks have an appropriate bolt thru mount---the mount on the Silverado is great (I have a single, very quiet and efficient) I wouldnt worry about moving it at all myself---now if I was boxing it up and flying with it id run a length of ductape over it to secure it or something similar---great sink that cools and is quiet---

pal8045's won't fit on a tigermp

get an sk6 or similar, with a 27cfm ystech fan, they are quiet enough

agreed, I just built a computer based on a XP 1800+, using a very quiet Sunon (dont have the model/cfm offhand) and a SK6 it stays under 110F... of course that could be bad probe contact because of resistors on bottom...

either that or just anything that is thin-fin copper

Swiftec MCX462-b whith 80mm zalman fan. that cools pretty silent. not to forget its more efficent than most heatsinkfans using delta 38cfm screamer.

as we just said, 80mm heatsinks won't fit on the tigermp

sk6 with a 80mm panaflo you can put 80mm fans on the sk6 you have the put them sideways sort of take a knife and cut a few notches in the fan where the hold down things go and your all set im doing it now with a sunon i only hav eabout 3C difference between it and the screamer and so much more quiet

oh. but wouldnt the 60mm version of the MCX462 do then?

the mcx370 is what you mean, yeah it'd do well, but as there will be no overclocking going on, the sk6, vantec thin fin, and others will be just fine

oki. but id use it anyway. because its is very efficient, and even whiht an lownoise fan, like an pabst, it gets good temps. or just take an delta screamer and run it at 7volts. i heard that they are pretty quiet then...

Umm, why not just a pair of Ax-7's with Panaflo M1As?
