Hi2u Internet

So um yea I got some 'splaining to do I suppose.

"WTF did you go off to pH?"
Well I uh haven't really been doing much computer-enthusiast stuff for a long time now and so I never really felt the need to post/comment here on this site. The fact I don't even have any watercooled PCs any more also held me back a bit.

"But we love you and your zany antics sir! What are you up to now?"
Well I just got tenured and promoted at work (wooo hoo now pants truly ARE optional at work) and I bought a house a year ago. Home repair and improvement are more or less my replacement PC hobby nowadays, for good or ill.

"Are you going to return and write up some articles about modding/breaking stuff?"
Uh probably not, but I will try to post more and get more involved with bsing with the regulars who are still here. I am so out of the loop that I'm still gaming on a S939 3500+ so not sure how valuable my opinion on computers is nowadays anyway.

I can't really see myself ever not being a kind of enthusiast. So are we going back to plan B for procooling? :p

But bill, that rig kicked ass back in 1999 :D And JD, isn't the x1950 actually a good card?

Well the system plays everything I play just fine and even at decent resolution. However the X1950Pro is no Radeon HD 3870 X2 1GB. :evilaugh:

Yeah, I bought it because it was dirt cheap. :D Upgrade is in the works sometime this year. I am usually a year or two behind though. Keeps things cheap and up to date enough.

Well the nice thing is you can overclock the shit out of any chip intel has out right now. Just ask una, he has a $70 C2D running from like 1.8 to over 3 GHz.

Re: Hi2u Internet

Are people still building really slick WCed computers and overclocking? I actually have both money and spare time and GOD those new Lian Li/Silverstone cases are tempting me...

Re: Hi2u Internet

DO IT! :D You can still build a WC system that beats air cooling. You can take the q6600 to 4 GHz on water :) I thought about water cooling my CPU and even started to but I know a friend that was selling off the phase change coolers he built (cheap but I'm not sure why) and I am going to get a unit for $350 - $500 pretty soon if things go right. I still plan to water cool my video card and north bridge though. But I still will probably WC some of my other rigs. Let me know if your interested in a cheap single stage too because the guy I know has a couple :) And he will tune them to your heat load. They start at $450 (I got the friend discount ;))
But yeah, definitely do it!

The "hot: (no pun!) setup now is multiple loops with multiple pumps and multiple rads. Now, wouldn't that be fun!

Re: Hi2u Internet

well after talking to pH, it seems he probably has enough shit to do many, many loops. hehe... Even has that fancy chiller :D
And not to be off topic but Bill do you have any pics of your computer?

I been holding off on multicore CPU's as a couple of the games I play seem to have issues unresolved as of yet with them. :hammer:

I've only had that problem with really old games. Couldn't you use an emulator or something? My friend sent me this program called something like "Dual Core Patch" back when I had my Opteron 175 and it let me play (Unreal Tournament I think...) again. When I moved to intel I didn't need any patch. But at least get yourself a nice single core Opty:nod:

Well one is a MMORPG. Constantly updating but they still have multicore issues. One of the solutions is setting it to run on one core.... :hammer: Not going to let that stop me from buying a dual though. Going to wait a bit longer, carefully watching the DDR2 prices. If they show signs of prices going up I might start to buy parts starting with the ram. DDR2 is dirt cheap right now.
