Another Possibly Stupid Question
 

Would it be effective to put three 120mm fans on the bottom of the radiator facing the same way the three on top do? Here's a graphic

I tested this out with a single black ice extreme, and tried it with and without fan shrouds too. For the life of me I can't find the original damn post I made about it, but the info is referenced (and discussed) here:

Basically the gains are so small compared to the massive increase in noise that it's just not worth bothering.

Not a stupid question at all. Yes, adding more airflow (never mind how it's done for now) will increase cooling. But the answer to how much air flow and how much cooling is "It depends".

The attached chart for an older ThermoChill series seems to indicate that water flow rate, air flow rate and heat dissipation are related, as one would expect!

Note the conclusion that can be drawn from the graph:
At low water flow rates increased air flow has a minimal effect.
A high water flow rates increased air flow has a large effect.
Increacing the air flow beyond a certain limit yields diminishing returns at any water flow rate.

So, which part of the curve for your rad are you on now?

The noise increase from using 2 fans in push/pull is HUGE compared to the temp gain (if any).

I'm using a Black Ice X-Flow Stealth GTS 360 Radiator with a Swiftech 655 and 3 120mm Scythe fans

Again, if you don't care about noise and want cooler, do it. But really, its not worth it unless you don't mind the noise.

100% agree.

3 fans one one side should be more than enough anyway. Doubtful 6 would gain much.
