Disk Check Operation Question.
 

I just added 2 new drives to a Snap 2000, I get the double flashing light. According to the Wiki it's a:

Double flashes Reflect disk activity System is running a performing a check operation

How long should this take? It's been running for 24 hours! Plus the system can't be seen in assist!

Any thoughts?

Is it a 1 x 2 pattern ? Be more specific.

Can you connect to the server?

Sorry.. The server has 1 500GB in it with the SNAP OS installed. I added 2 300GB drives thinking it would copy over the OS and just work fine. I'm waiting on 2 more 300GB drives and the 500 will be removed.

I can't connect to the SNAP, I get a flashing link light and the double flashing power light. Assist doens't see the server.

Maybe I am just having a bad day, but when I read all of this, I keep getting the "Whos on first" feeling.

The 1x2 its NO OS Found.

Recheck your jumpers. The 2000 uses the master/slave CS all depends on the MFG.

Please explain 1 X 2? I went and put one of the 30GB drives back in that came with the unit (working drive). Same thing, the top LED flashes twice, and I can't connect through assist.

On the motherboard, there is IDE1 and IDE2, I am connecting the drive to the middle connector on IDE1, the drive is set for CS. Should I set it to master?

Talk about being brain dead!! It's a SNAP 4000! not a 2000!!!

OK, removed power, removed the battery.

Drive one comes up and it sees drive #2... Everything seems to be working fine now.

Hmm.

Does snap server do file integrity? Ie like a md5 or crc of every file. Im worried about file integrity.

If a file gets altered because a drive is failing. How is one supposed to know its good?

Also. When I put another drive in this snap server. Does it auto format it? Also. If it does does it take a while for the unit to start up?

Where do i find the what the LED's mean (Like troubleshooting) blinking LEDS?

HA! I knew something didn't make sense... :evilaugh:

Now we are getting somwhere...


First, yes, it does take a little while for it to format the drive when it first boots. But this is nothing more than a format and should take no longer than a format on a PC does. Been a while, but if I remember right, it won't boot all the way until it finishes formatting the drive(s).

Next, you are going to have serious power issues. Those drives are too much for that little old power supply.

Then, there is a 1TB limit with the SNAP OS units kernel. You will not be able to build any type of array where the total drive size added up is greater than 1TB beforearray creation. This is total, before taking out CRC data. Meaning, in RAID 5 for example, 3 x 320 GB drives, or 4 x 250 GB drives (kiss 4 x 300 goodbye).

The setting of CS or M/S depends on what revision 4000 you have and the cables included with the unit.

For a 4000, drive 1 is the BOTTOM FRONT, 2 is the TOP FRONT, 3 is the BOTTOM REAR, and 4 is the TOP REAR.
