BEWARE!!..Ripped off by Matt from OCZ
 

I was shopping for an AVIA 1 gig chip...I icq'ed matt to ask if the OCZ had AVIA's and if I could request one specifically..

He said they did, but there was going to be a shipping delay, and said if I paypal'ed him $220, he would take care of the order and ship it out personally...I thought I was on the receiving end of a kind act, since I had done business with matt and ocz several times before...

I received the chip the very next day via Airborne Express from the address of the OCZ store...

I did nothing with the chip that day, because I was waiting for sandpaper to arrive, believe it or not...Matt icq'ed me and asked me if I had tried the chip...I told him I had not, and he urged me to try it out as soon as possible...I promised I would install it the next day...

Well, that next day, I also received my Duron that I had ordered from OCZ a week prior...so I installed the Duron, and booted up...WOW!...I got 1gig right off the bat with 1.75V...I was impressed with the chip...

So I shut down, pulled out the Duron, and with high hopes, installed the AVIA 1gig...it would not post...so I checked to make sure everything was seated properly...I got no post, nothing...

I contacted Matt, and he told me to inspect the chip...I took out a magnifying glass, and confirmed that the bridges were in perfect condition...the core looked good, but there was a tiny bit of white color along the edge of the top of the core...Matt immediately told me that I fried my chip due to thermal damage...

I was appalled...the chip had been turned on for about 3 seconds at a time, twice...once no beeps were heard, it was shut down...all the while, attached to my waterblock with water pumping through it kept at a temperature of 26C(I have an inline thermistor)...the Duron ran at 28C at 1000mhz fine with this same setup...

I told matt I was very disappointed, and he told me there was no way that he could pull $200 out of his pocket to replace a chip for me...I told him I was pissed because the day after I ordered that chip from him for $220, the OCZ listed a sale on AVIA chips for only $209...SURELY matt was privvy to that information prior to selling me that chip...after 15 minutes of reasoning with him, he agreed that he would get me a replacement chip somehow...I thanked him, and I agreed that "I owed him big", just to appease him, so that I could have a better chance of getting a replacement chip...

I asked him where I should send this chip back to, and he told me don't worry about it, just KEEP IT!!!...I couldn't believe it...he did a diagnosis over the phone for thermal damage, and did not even want to see the chip?? I had a sick feeling in my stomach at that moment that he must have known the chip was bad when he shipped it out....I mean, I have been talking with Matt for some time now, and I KNOW his ego...he always claimed that he could get chipped and damaged chips to run...why didn't he even want this one back??

well, some time went by, and I heard nothing...I icq'ed matt, and got no response...so today, I called OCZ, and guess who answered the phone? Matt...he says right away, "Hey, did you get my icq?", nope...I never got an icq from Matt...he claims that he got in trouble for trying to steal stuff from the store, and had a sit-down with his boss about it, and that it's not worth losing his job to try and get me a replacement chip...and that was that...I was at work, so I did not get into it with him...I know now that I will NEVER see a chip from Matt to replace the garbage he sent me...so I thought I'd warn those of you that have helped me so much with advice and troubleshooting in the past....BE WARNED!!!...

Gee... that's odd.. Never heard of people having problems w/ OCZ before... Cough! Cough!
Sux man... sorry. Geez. That's $200+ you were taken for.

Well, I figured it would happen, and it did...the guys at forumoc.com (used to be the forum of athlonoc.com), removed the thread from the forum after only 6 hours...150+views, 20+replies....now it's gone...

guess some people still have their nose up Matt's ass...(they are probably still waiting in hopes for a replacement chip, heh)

then I get a personal message from Matt, threatening me that it's not a good idea on my part to try to ruin his life

thats why I only buy my chips retail, cant stand all these lying aholes. that screw with people.

I think PCNut is a GREAT source though... seriously. Don't rule them out as they are cheaper than microsoft...

hehehe Yeh OCZ is just about as crooked as they come. PCNut is good, and I trust them, and for NON pre tested chips Mwave is great.

And here I thought you were in awe that Ryan over at OCZ was giving you a replacement chip at OCZ's cost even though the Deal was a personal Deal with MATT, NOT OCZ

Sucks that it happened to ya man, but that's why I only buy retail at local stores (at least when it comes to CPUs.)

I don`t buy w/ ppl via ICQ. I always buy on an online store. Even then I always print out the page confirming my order.

sorry, ealston...have been studying for my final exams...and shopping for R/C airplane stuff(which has occupied MOST of my time, hehe)

but why are you such a pain in the ass?? you have to make shitty remarks on every one of my threads...Matt told me to paypal him the money and he would ship the chip out personally, so that I wouldn't have to wait the usual 2 week wait for OCZ...he took my order while he was AT ocz...he shipped it out while AT ocz...he shipped it out with an ocz shipping label...so I assumed this was on the up and up...

and when I posted on the ForumOC that he was lying, you jumped down my throat, saying how could I know he killed the chip...

I wasn't talking about him lying about killing the chip...I was talking about him lying to me about everything...he chipped a 750 of mine, and admitted it to me on the phone(before it even arrived at my house, he called me to tell me about it)...then he denied it...then he told me ....

you know what, ealston? you're a waste of time...I wont bother anybody else here with this crap...

but as a note, Ryan, owner of OCZ called me up and said he would send me out a replacement chip...and I posted on ForumOC about it, but forgot to post here about it...that was a bit more than a week ago...I am waiting to hear from Ryan regarding when this is supposed to take place...

so if this actually goes through, I would say that OCZ actually reacted honorably...

I DO believe that Ryan will make good on his word...but the man is more difficult to reach than President Bush...I am stuck with only being able to leave messages at OCZ (with Matt) for Ryan to call me...so I'm not even certain that Ryan is even getting my messages...

I realize you were upset then, and heard only the Bad about you (basically what you thought I was saying).
What I said is that I had a chip die sitting on a shelf and it COULD have been NO Ones fault,Not Yours Nor Matts; AND that you guys threatning to kill each other over it would not solve anything.

I was trying to be a diplomat in the situation, Sorry you did not see it that way.

I hope the New Chip you got works well for you, I never wished to be a pain in your ass. I just felt that when spreading the Bad side LOUDLY, the flip side/Follow up SHOULD also Be noted.

I just registered on this forum so I could post in this thread. I have had the misfortune of of getting in bed with those dogs and I definitely got out of bed with fleas on me. BTW Scott, Ryan was the one who said not to replace your chip.. it was a managerial decsion and one that really made me look like the badguy!!

If you don't want to look like the bad guy, take it up the butt now and then, and replace the customer's CPU's. You'll make more money in the long run because of the good reputation you'll get. Granted, it's WAAAAAYYYYY beyond that point for your company, but in the next lifetime.. :)
