Sanp 1000M

Hi. I have just got hold of a Snap M1000 with a disk that is reporting SMART errors and want to replace the drive ASAP.

I have tried DD and Dolly to copy the image to an 80 GB drive without success. I have read that some drives have problems accepting an image copy due to drive architecture problems and this may be my problem. I am going to retry with a different drive.

I believe I can upgrade the SNAP OS to one > v3.4.805 to get LBA48 support but can't find a copy anywhere. I am also after the assist program.

Is it possible to upgrade it to a 2200 image and run 2 drives with Raid 1 mirroring.

Hope someone can help.

Thanks

DD works if you follow the instruction on this forum.

Unless you want a door stop don't try converting it to a 2200.

The 1000 are not very fast units so allow ample time for things to happen. But if you get the 1x2 LED pattern it did not find the OS. Make sure you set the jumpers correctly on the new HD.

The FAQ's will give you most all the info you require.

Adaptec/Overland? has been providing Assist and 3.4.807 on request. To my knowledge only a few have been able to get v4.0.860 from them free. But every country has different laws when it comes to hardware and copyrighted material.

Thanks for your reply.

I will contact Adaptec and try to get Assist and 3.4.807.

Just to confirm, is the 1-2 LED pattern 1 blink of the System LED to 2 blinks of the Disk LED? Or something else?

I have read that a 1x00 can be upgraded to a 2x00 by changing a BIOS entry. Is this correct.

And if so can I then get RAID 1 on 2 drives?

You will brick the 1000 if you do it.

A bios change causes a reboot then it will lockup. Because the HW does not match the firmware, and no ways to correct it because you loose access.

Trust me on this one.
