SNAP 4000 recovery
 

My SNAP 4000 crashed early this week and I need to recover data. :(

I have been googling the net and obtained quotes and generally trying to get some idea of who can do the work correctly and reliably. So far, these guys has been telling me that it will need a clean room and they will need to take the drive apart.

Finally, I looked at RAID Recovery Labs based in Colorado. Seems reasonable after conversing with tech. He says they image the drive and recreate based on the image. I don't know much about these companies and the http://www.raidrecoverylabs.com/ site does not even provide any location information other that the one on release form. This makes me a little concerned. Has anyone worked with this company on data recovery for snap devices?

Is there anyone out there who has ran into this situation and had data recovered and had very satisfactory results? Recommendations welcome.

The person who does this type of work and specializes in Snap Servers is Snap-Tech. Search for Snap-Tech on this forum and you will find his number and email Douglas also. I would do some research on data recovery companies before just up and sending your hard drives/unit first.

The first thing I would ask myself concerning your unit is .... what caused the unit to crash? Then try and ask here or figure out how to prevent it OR fix it. When describing here give as much info about your unit as possible including the SnapOS, type and size of hard drives, etc..etc..etc... and what happen...storm,etc...

Get a hold of snap-tech he does contract work for most all of the other companies when it comes to SnapOS raid. Put 4000 recovery in the subject line.... That is why they tell you clean room, so they have time to send it to him. If I recall he said 90+% of raid 5's can be recovered without a clean room. And the odds of getting the heads to track once disassembled is a shot in the dark. Clean rooms are just a selling point and in most cases not needed.

Now the reason your 4000 went down is more important.... 4000 have weak power supplies, so installing large HD taxes them more.

Thanks guys, I found his posts earlier while searching and based on the postings he looks like he does great work. I have sent him an email.

I tried calling his cell number but it just goes to voice mail. The 800 number is no longer available. I google searched for frontline data recovery and it showed up in the http://www.manta.com/company/mmss9d4 site. The number there is not current either. I hope he still works on these.

Update: his email on frontlinedatarecovery.com just bounced, I sure hope he still checks his yahoo account.

It has been a couple of days. No responses from snap-tech either via email or PM. I am getting worried now.

So far no reply. I have tried what I think is his home but no body was home, will try again. I'm still trying to locate his cel number.

Thanks for doing this, he has finally responded to my email. Hopefully he comes through.
