ST31500341AS (1.5TB) on Snap Server 210 or 410?

Hi.

I tried to use a Seagate 1500GB hard disk (type ST31500341AS) in a Guardian OS Snap Server 410 or 210 but it doesn't walk.

The Hard Disk has been recognized correctly by the system at [Storage] [Disks/Units] but in [Raid Sets] the field usable space has witten: 'Unknown'.
If I like to install any Raid onto this drive the result is: 'Unknown API error: 103048 (RaidDiskFailedException)'.

(I tried both GuardianOS V4 and V5 ..)

1.000 GB harddisks (e.g. SAMSUNG-HD103UJ ) are working well.
I have a model 410 with 4x1.000 GB in Raid5 configuration with netto 2.73 TB available.

Why doesn't work a bigger drive?
What is biggest drive, somebody has running?

Thanks

Adaptec said at one time that they were going to put a stop to users upgrading there units. They wanted the revenue of 4x$$$ they could get on the HD's and sell new units. These smaller units have been the most trouble when it comes to upgrades. I have not played with one to see what is going on. I suspect that since the OS looks for an ID chip, the restrictin may be there. Or it could be a memory thing, too. I just don't no. The 1gig HD have been used suscessful in the 4500's. But have not heard of any one installing anything larger. The OS supports 23T or more.

This could be the matter.
Both of the servers recognize the drives well at [Storage] [Disks/Units].

Lets look for a solution to kill that cat.

In the 4500 ??? - Thats a IDE Server. I've never seen an 1G IDE drive.

I think you mean the 410 family, yes?

Could it possibly be that they are not accepted because the 1.5TB drives are Desktop (AS) Grade, Not Enterprise Grade drives (NS)?

I heard from somewhere that the 1.5gb drives will never be brought out as Enterprise Grade drives but there was an intention to have a 2TB Enterprise Grade drive once they were "approved" to be classified as NS.

They could have disabled GOS from RAIDing 1.5TB's and 2TB's untill they release a Model Based on larger drives.

Whatever the case; when snaps are introduced with 2TB Drives we should be able to tell what they have done by testing different types of drives...
NS & ES in 1.5's and 2TB's..

Has anyone upgraded a GOS SATA (18000 & greater) SNAP with any size AS drives?
Has anyone upgraded a GOS SATA (18000 & greater) SNAP with 2TB drives?

I dont think that there is the possibility for a OS to differentiate a normal and a Enterprise Grade drive.
The cheap 1TB drives from Hitachi does run anyway.

It could be the the GOS stops using big drives. Thats very probable.
But then we can patch it.

Sorry, I'm late.
But here the info you've waited for (may be :) )
For all serial drive Snap Servers (110,220,410,510,520,..) you can use every serial drive you can get.
BUT: The IO-Speed of the drive may not be more than 1,5Gig/s
But2: That is no problem. You can get Software to throttle your drive from the manufacturer of the drive.

ok?
