Network Speed???
How fast do you guys get files to transfer on a 100 base-T network?...I've got two machines that are basically identical (C566@850, 128mb ram, WinME) networked with a 100 base-T switch between them.
Sandra says I'm getting about 9848k/s...but when I copy large files it varies between 1000 and 6000 k/s. Any Ideas? Thanks, David ddoan@execpc.com |
do you have a cheap hub? 100megabit/sec translates into 100/8 megabytes/sec which is about 12 megs per second ideally...however 56k modems are 57600 ideally...they can only reach speeds of 53000 though...1000 to 6000 is completely normal.

More testing.....Loaded up an FTP server. I get very consistent 5-7 megs per second both ways (I think I'm limited by the file system now) when using plain old FTP. Windows file sharing seems to be very erratic.

get netbios as 'standard' local protocol
its twice as fast as TCP/IP... (less overhead and shit) |
