Re: Snap server 1500

Let me know if you find anything out. I did a quick google and did not see anything about that system. Just a typo at overland about a 1500 (should have been a 15000).

It was a suprise to find on ebay. I had never see or heard of that model. I thought here would be the best place to ask about it.

Re: Snap server 1500

Yeap, you've come to the right place. I'm researching this now. So far nothing. Looks, at first glance, like an attempt to convert/modify a snap1000/1100 in to a raid 1 model. That's my guess so far.

Re: Snap server 1500

After spending 3+ hours researching this unusual unit I have found nothing on it. I searched the internet and found nothing. I then searched the archives of SnapAppliances, shop.SnapAppliances, snapserver, adaptec, and quantum. Looking in dataspecs, knowledge, etc. and found nothing.
I have written overlandstorage concerning this unit. I will post the information when I get it. I have written the ebay seller and will post the info when I get it.

I would strongly suggest that nobody buy this unit because there is absolutely no documentation in the public domain and I've also noticed that no power pack comes with this unit on the ebay add.

This is very strange to not have ANY trail on this unit on the web OR on there past websites.

Re: Snap server 1500

All I got from Overland is that it runs on SnapOS with limitations to 1-1.2TB because of the operation system. They have no documentation on this unit. Yeap, that right none. So, if you try a power supply I would be very careful, because you don't know what they used in it. And if you use the wrong one you could fry the board.

Re: Snap server 1500

Well, it seems like somebody purchased this item off ebay. I'd like it if they would post some information concerning this unusual unit. Pictures of mobo and etc. The reason why I'm posting this you might ask.. Well, if you do a search on google this is the only place that shows up on this model Snap Appliance 1500 . So, sooner or later that person will be here.

Re: Snap server 1500

I noticed that someone already bought it. I hope they know what they are getting into. I was really curious about it since there is nothing about it on the web. I was tempted to get it myself just to see what it was about. But someone beat me to it.

Thanks for making the effort to find out.

Re: Snap server 1500

Hey Cliff,
I was half tempted to purchase it too just because I've never seen one before and was interested in studying it. It would have been nice if you purchased it...at least I would have been able to ask you some questions. Anyway, thanks for bringing it to our attention here. Maybe it will come up again on ebay... who knows.

Re: Snap server 1500

I wrote many people at Overland and just got another reply.

"This, Unit is very old it may have not ever made it out of BETA, and would
have used Snap OS. We have no documentation on those systems."

Ouch.. This is not good for the person who purchased this. "BETA" Wow!!! , not good.

Re: Snap server 1500

Another follow up and probably the last one. I sent them an email a few months ago. Wow, very slow to respond on their web forum email.

"Hello,

We do not have any documentation on the Snap 1500 or offer any support on
the product.

Thank you,"

I also emailed the person who purchased this Snap 1500 on ebay and he would not respond.

Re: Snap server 1500

Thanks willPower, that was my gut feeling about the server. It's too bad I did not buy it. I would have liked to tinker around with it. Do you know anything about this unit?

Thanks willPower, you are a wealth of information. I wonder why they did not sell these two units to the general public.

A little off the topic, but since you seem to know about these unit. I was wondering what you could tell me about the Snap14000(clipper). I noticed there is an open bios socket PLCC32 what was this used for willPower? Also, there is a jumper options for booting. And what is the (looks like) IDE header that is closes to the backplane?

Anyway, just trying to seek out knowledge concerning SnapServers. As you can tell I'm a fan of the units in general.
I am now really kicking myself in the ass over not buying the Snap1500. Did not know it was GOS. They told me it was SnapOS from Overland.
