Snap 1100 Help

Hoping someone can help me here. I just got a Snap 1100. When I got it, all I got was the chassis. The previous owner took the drive out due to data security reasons. They also do not know where the original CD is for it. Here is my problem. I got a new drive for it...500 GB WD. Obviously there is no OS on this drive, so I cant get the system to come up. I cannot find the user CD anywhere on the net. Everything I see tries to point me to the new owner of Snap...overland. I cannot get the software from them without registering a product. I cant do that because it wants the original install date, which one I dont know, and two I know is before 2005 and the website registration deal will not let me input a date before that year. Anyway, all I need is a way to get the system up and running. My guess is I need Assist and an OS to get the system back up and running. Does anyone know how I can obtain this, since overland does not seem to be able to help me.

As you guessed, the OS is on the drive in the 1100 (some models keep it in flash instead). Even if you had the CD, it wouldn't help - you need to be running the OS in order for Assist to find the server and update it.

You're going to need a drive with SnapOS already on it, at least as a source to copy from.

Also, note that you need a recent (in geological terms :D) version of SnapOS in order to support LBA48 on the 1100. So, don't panic if your 500GB is only recognized as 137GB or so - once you upgrade the OS, you can re-format the data partition to achieve the full capacity (I'm running some 750GB's in 1100's). Just keep an eye on the power requirements of the drive - most newer drives use less power than smaller capacity older units, but not always.

Do you know where I can get an 1100 OS from besides the drive? I know there are files around for this somewhere and I can use DD or ghost or something to make this work.

Re: Snap 1100 Help

Search rapidshare for snap2200.bin you should get a pretty long list. Then once installed upgrade the SnapOS to the latest v4.0.860 which can be downloaded free from Overland.

Ok, I got a file, however it is a rar and inside that a sup not a bin. Also I cannot get the file from overland because it says that I dont have a registered product for it. When I try to register it, I cant...see info from first post.

If its a SUP file it's not the image file. I notice their was a wide varation in file size. But the image file uncompressed should be a min of 15meg most were 20 meg.
