Newbie
Ok, as most of you can probably already tell. I am in no way a network/server expert. I am a designer that used a snap server years ago at an old design studio. I loved it so much that now I am working freelance I decided to buy an older one (same one, a Snap NAS 2200) that I used years ago. Problem is there are a few problems that I know can be fixed (or that I am simply overlooking).
The first and this is something new for me. How can I access the server on my mac when I am outside the office? I checked the settings last night before I went to bed but now when I try what I think is correct it still does not work. Thanks rick |
Re: Newbie
Setup your router and 2200 so the server has FTP access. You basicly use your router to direct all traffic using a port to your server. I do recommend that you use a non-std port (>1024 <65535) to keep hackers from hammering it. You may need to use DynDNS to have an named server, also requires this setup in your router. I use Filezilla as my FTP client application on Mac and PC. FTP on the SnapOS is very picky. Make sure it works fine from your mac internally before trying it from the road. Outside access requires Passive mode to get through the router firewall.

Re: Newbie
Hi Blue, to be honest almost everything you mentioned is greek to me. Sorry for the delay in getting back. I have been busy. I am going to try to attempt what you suggested that I do but I may have to log back in and ask a few questions. As I mentioned I just want to be able to mount the servedr to my remote mac desktop. :hammer:

Re: Newbie
I'm running MBP as my main computer. I'm in the process of setting up iSCSI for mac. This will allow native TM to back up like a local drive. I also have a link on how to setup a std SMB to work with TM.
You will need to be on a pretty current version of the GOS for iscsi. |
