Hard Drives for Water Cooled System
 

OK, I just put water cooled in the topic so this would get read. The other forums just don't have the same number and quality of posters.

In everyone's opinion, what's the best hard drive for RAID between:

Western Digital Caviar 7200/ATA100 WD300BB 30gb or WD400BB 40gb
Maxtor DiomandMax Plus 45 7200/ATA100 30gb or 40gb
Maxtor DiomandMax Plus 60 7200/ATA100 30gb or 40gb

I'm leaning towards the Western Digitals, but not sure .. I hear mixed reports of both WD and Maxtor being awesome and being terrible. The WD's are a couple dollars more but not much, and I'm getting either at cost (promotion from work) so this is why say IBM Deskstars aren't in this list :)

No deskstar? The 60GXP is pretty nice and its probably a tad faster then all three of the disks you listed.

I have also heard that Fujitsu HDD are in many cases faster, quieter, and COOLER by nature (liquid ball-bearings?)

The only drives I can get on my employee purchase are the WD and Maxtor drives unfortunately. I'd by a IBM if I could. I don't really know much about the two, but a tech told me that theres problems with maxtors and RAIDs. Anyone else can back this up? Going to run a striped array.

I have a Fujitsu 40Gb HDD in my server.. that damn harddrive is hot as hell compared to the 3 GXP IBM's.

I've had 3 of em f&#¤ers die om me. And the company that sold the first one to me just keps em coming untill they heve no more. (or so they tell me).
Tell u one thing, i'll never buy anythong from that place again.

Probably a bad batch and they keep sending you more from the same batch... :P

It's funny how this topic get's moved from the watercooling forum and suddenly dies.

This site like most is segregated into groups of people with equal interests in seperate forums. Part of the reason I spend at least an hour a day on this site in the watercooling area is I've begun to feel comfortable with the qualified answers others give. It's to bad we can't ask questions once and a while for the people we consider peers without being thrown out of these areas.

I'm not sure if anyone frequents this forum, or if they really know anything. I was hoping to get decent answers from those I trust.

Maybe you should consider the fact that most of us frequent one or two forums on this site. In my case other than watercooling and the continued story that your coming up with reviews of watercooled parts... theres not much else. I'm sure there are those that couldn't be bothered with watercooling, and again they probably never go into the other areas.

Oh well. You're site none the less is the only site I post on... I guess I'll just stick to watercooling.

A friend had a Fujitsu and it burned itself to death.

I have seen many Fuji's and a few Samsung's die brutal deaths just from running too long.

Seagate and IBM are the most robust of all the drives. Give me an IBM anyday. I have 5 9.1GB IBM SCSI drives running still, and they have bene spinning for 3 years 24/7 now with out as much as a bad sector.

Barracuda IV. I just got one, and after using SCSI for many years, I notice very little speed loss (if any). Even better, I can't hear the harddrive (with my case off). Even accesses are barely audible, I have to strain to hear them.

I just bought a IBM 10GB travelstar 2.5" HD for my 3rd iOpener, and it was DOA out of the box.

first DOA IBM drive I have ever had. Their Customer serivce Dept ****ing RULES. It's already back on its way to IBM and a new one is on its way to me.
