Reading rpm. on Papst 80mm fan, help!

Hi

I have a new 80mm (34 cfm)Papst fan, it has only two wires on it so it's not possible to read the rpm. of the unit, but I can se that there is one more soldering spot beside the two wires on the circutboard on the fan, and I was wondering if it's posible to solder a third wire on this spot and then be apple to read the rpm, has anyone any idea if this is possible???

Thanks
Blind-Goose

Blind-Goose, you are correct. The third patch on the fan is for RPM monitoring, it just isnt used when sold as a 4-pin molex fan, beacuse there's no use for it. If you can manage to solder a wire to that, and lead it to the rpm monitoring line on your motherboard or digidoc, it should work like any other 3-pin fan
