every 10 min or so my hard drive activity light comes on and just stays solid for about a minute (while nothing else can be done...mouse won't move) then its fine...whats wrong?

Im using a promise fasttrack 66 with 3 Maxtor ata/66 30 gigers

1. Are you running Win98 OSII or lower? I have see your problem a number of times, especially with Maxtors. Try twinking your power managment settings. Don't let it go into sleep mode. Instead set your drives to power down after 10min. This will generate the same effect.

2. What size power supply are you running? It might be that you don't have enought juice. Each drive requires around 70-80 watts of power on system boot. This would pose true in other applicaitons where every drive is involved. 124watts from your hard drive, and estimated 25watts per cd rom, another 20 watts for your cards, and 40-60 watts for an AMD processor. If your running a 250 watt power supply or lower, your in trouble.

3. Try dissconnecting your slave drives, and running the system. See if it does the same thins it's doing. If it dosen't the reconnect your HD's but then dissconnect your floppy, and CD rom (basically anything that eats unnecessary juice) try it this way.
