shotgun dsl?
we play a lot of unreal at my house and have run out of bandwidth i've ordered another dsl line.i know i could run 2 severs and split half the computers on 2 switches and mybe bridge the two networks, but i heard i might be able to run them "shotgun" like we use to with 56k modems. anyone know how?

there's probly a NAT program that will do it, maybe winroute pro?
|
Cross posting is bad :)

sorry joe
|
i want to know if you could do that too... do you think linux could do it?
|
I doubt it, I think its more a function of the router hardware than anything else. I guess if you can find some software made to do it, you may be able to.

Are you talking about using dual DSL lines acting as a single IP address?
I was toying with the idea of doing that a while back with a DSL and a Cable modem. I have heard from one of my friends that Linix COULD do it (IP "mascarading" I think it was called) I personally do NOT know how to do it, all I know is that I believe Linix CAN be configured to do it HOWEVER a Linux Box would HAVE to become your router for both DSLs in order to achieve this. If I ever actually get around to doing something like that, I will be sure to post it here Good luck. P.S. Why dont you just uncap your DSL? AKA ADSL have a maximum downstream of 1.5Mb and upstream of 786Kb (same as a T1) Most DSL companies offer an upgrade plan for extra $$$$ IF you are close enough to the station that your DSL is connected to. That might solve your problem too :) |
i'm checking into that,or a fractional t1.hell i thought i knew alot about networking"took a class cisco", but right now i feel as dumb as a box of rocks.

try winroute pro. you can select NAT for multiple interfaces.
the trial is free and its fully functional. |
I have a buddy who's a full blown MCSE and Network+ and
lots of other things that look good on paper. And I know someone who has "Aggrigated" (the proper term for what your asking about) dual 1.1 DSL lines. I'll try to get back to you on this soon. |
please do, i even emailed the auther of a book" sever load balancing" and he wasn't sure. but he said it might be done by runing bgp. I'm still reading up on bgp! it seems to be the million doller question:)
