Cracked pump
Yesterday while trying to tighten a connection down just a "little bit more" on my pump, I cracked the casing. It's a MagDrive 250 and I cracked the female port just straight down the side about a half inch.
Now this was right as I was gooping up all of my connections on the pump. I figured, that since the crack wasn't too big, if I could just goop it up enough it would be ok. I was just curious if you guys think that the pressure inside or anything else might bust through the goop? I put a good bit on there and will probably tape it too. Thanks, Jason |
Use epoxy or some thick super glue. This Goop everyone talks about is just silicon I think. It does not have any adhesion properties. I could be wrong. Like I said I don't know exactly what Goop is.

Yes nportelli has the spin on this one. I did the same with my Ehiem 1250 and fixed it with Araldite, (two part epoxy resin). I recommend the proper long curing stuff for this, not Araldite Rapid. My pump is fine now, no leaks. Just make sure you roughen the surface to get a good bond and also be sure it is clean and dry, (use white sprit or something similar), Give the Epoxy over night to cure before handling or using it, and never be "brutal" with that area of the pump and it should be fine.

Hey, I did the same thing and all that goop stuff was not worth the time and effort, it still ended up leaking. I bought a replacement for $4.30 at aqua-mart INC. They have great service too. Here is the likn if your interested.http://www.aqua-mart.com/show.pl?cmd=showsubcats&subcatid=118

GOOP is NOT silicon, its a rubber adhesive.

I put a large hose clamp over the female adapter on my Danner MagDrive. Hope that keeps it from cracking.
As for sealant, the two part epoxy mentioned early is probably what you are looking for. Just make sure you mix it up well, and it should be good to go. Might want to invest in a hose clamp as well. :) |
Thanks for the help guys. I'm considering just buying a new pump. I wanted a higher GPH anyway.
