Whats wrong with my setup??
OK i have a 1240 athlon(dtek sidewinder 1/2" id and the sox tab extreme pressure mounting bracket tightened over installation instructions) and a gainward geforce3(dd geforce cooler 1/2" id) watercooled by a heatercore (dtek) and a 1250 eheim. The ambient is around 25-27 c this time of year. My water temp is around 29 c. The cpu temp according to a flat thermistor touching the side of core is around 33 c full load. The mother board is an a7a266 and its thermistor reads 53 c. Before watercooling it read 60-65 c from the motherboard sensor. I always thought it read high but have really no way of verifying any of these temps against others because i have only the compunurse switch thermistor deal I built(allows me to read 6 temps with one led readout). I just started reading the Geforce3 temps on the back of the core with a flat thermistor taped to it. It reads 49 c. My question is what is up with my temps? I will post some pics soon to show you what i mean but i though i would get the ball rolling..
BTW i use as2 and use their application instructions. I have 1/2" id 3/4"od silocone hoses and 2 inline thermistors.... |
sounds ok to me.

Are you using the Asus Probe software? That reads about 8-12 C higher than the bios. I think they bump it up because the thermister is mounted on the board and doesn't touch the back of the CPU so they adjust for it. Check the Bios readings against Asus probe.

it obviously isn't your pump or rad, cause your water temps are good.
it is one of these: waterblock, mounting, TIM application, or screwy mobo temps two of these can be simply fixed by remounting the block and reapplying the AS2. I'd try that first. Your mobo is known for reading high temps, but even so, that does sound a bit high |
Damn...
I thought it could be mounting as well but when i saw the temps for the geforce3 i couldnt believe both blocks are getting poor contact with their respective chips.... Does the 49c on the back of the geforce3 sound right? |
not when it is being watercooled. Heck, a normal gf3 with a hsf on it barely gets above that
|
Check the mounting for the WB. My nylon bolts loosen over time and cause the CPU temps to rise from 40C to about 47C. A quick tighten on the bolts and the temps fall back to 40C.
My GF2MX400 runs about 32C, are the GF3s that much hotter? |
they are quite a bit hotter, almost all gf2mx's have a passive heatsink, while almost all of the gf3's have a hsf on them.
But there is no way one should be at 49C with watercooling |
A couple of things you all should know
The thermistor i use for the vid is a flat one taped to the back of the card. The geforce3 is running @ core 245, mem 545 .... btw it blows the doors off the geforce3 titanium cards.hehhe also it never crashes. i can loop nature on 3dmark2001 no problem. The mounting hardware on the geforce3 watercooler has to have more pressure than the stock hsf? The mount i use for cpu is the SIX-TAB extreme pressure deal from www.dtekcustoms.com . The only thing i can think of is maybe one side of the mount is tighter than the other. It is hard to adjust it now with the tubes there. i will have to check out the mounting when i get back home. Maybe i'll lap the blocks too. |
