Color info from Joe

Joe, do you have the RGB numbers from the background blues? Trying to get my avatar to match but it's not working.

Search for a post from iceheart. He has an avatar that matches the background. Just save his to your comp and get the color that way.

Unfortunately he used a transparent gif, since I'm going to be blending between colors I need the RGB or CMYK or HSL numbers.

can't you just take a screen shot, export the colours to whatever program you use for image editing, and go from there?

iceheart 02-01-2002 07:02 AM

I tried to make mine better but you cna't use a jpeg because the bg color alternates and you can't use PNG avatars (which support alpha channel transparency).

Lonely Raven 02-01-2002 10:22 AM

I think photoshop allows you to use the eye dropper to sample colors in other windows...I'm at work right now so I don't happen
to know the hot keys for it or write up a quick guide for you.

Also, when you do a screen capture, it should paste into
MS Paint as an uncompressed, unaltered BMP. So you should
have no problems importing it into photoshop or PSP to get the
RGB codes.

If Joe doesn't get back to you by tonight, I'll do it for you when I
get home from work.

iceheart 02-01-2002 12:50 PM

The codes are easy enough to get, but that's not the problem. The problem is that there are 2 DIFFERENT blues being used as ALTERNATING BG colors, so your avatar will only ever match one of them!

BTW the codes are (even if you don't need them):

Light Blue: #223382 or 34, 51, 130
Darker Blue: #1F2E74 or 31, 46, 116

iceheart 02-01-2002 12:54 PM

Your best bet would be to blend to one of the colors, use a hard gif transparency and pray it doesn't look too shitty.

iceheart 02-01-2002 01:00 PM

I made this little test:

iceheart 02-01-2002 01:01 PM

No I'm not padding my post count :) I'm showing how it looks like on the dark BG color.

futRtrubL 02-01-2002 01:40 PM

Much thanks iceheart, I'll be doing a circular ripple using both bg colors so it'll match each bg color...ish.

I think I need to get a new monitor, your blends don't match quite right on mine. I wish color calibration wasn't so expencive. Oh well, as long as it matches on others.

How does the ripple on this match the darkbg?

futRtrubL 02-01-2002 01:47 PM

and on the light bg?

Kevin 02-01-2002 02:24 PM

futRtrubL, I like it! The colors look rad. Of course, my avatar rules all ;)

WebMasta33 02-02-2002 11:20 PM

LMAO... you could have just taken a screenshot, and used the "color match tool" to find out the values.

futRtrubL 02-02-2002 11:48 PM

Yup, that would have been the perfect solution. However I was working on this at 1am, not the time best suited to complex (or simplified) thought. ;']
That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it!

Screenshotting a webbpage to get the colors can produce unpredictable results, it's better to check the HTML code (what I did).

futRtrubL 02-03-2002 10:24 AM

How did you check the HTML code here? I tried viewing the source but since this is a php I wasn't able to.

Edward

iceheart 02-03-2002 11:36 AM

I just did View/Source and found the appropriate place...

futRtrubL 02-03-2002 02:32 PM

For some reason that doesn't work for me.

Edward

Pyrotechnic 02-03-2002 05:34 PM

if you notice, every other post is a dark blue, and others are a light blue, so your avatar will only match every now and then:)

iceheart 02-03-2002 05:42 PM

Which I've said like 3 times allready :)

Pyrotechnic 02-03-2002 05:46 PM

whoops...lol....i didn't read the entire thread:D looks like it's been said 4 times now:eek:
