Help Voltage Mod on KR7A-RAID
I'm looking to tweak my KR7A a bit. Even if it doesn't get me
anything out of this processor I have, I'd like to do it at least once so I have the experience of voltage modding a board. Can anyone give me some leads on voltage modding this board? I've found lots of links on how to do it to the older boards.... I'd just like to have a nice simple step by step with this one. I'm rather skilled with the soldering iron...I'm just not the electrical McGuyver that I'd like to be.... Any help is greatly apprecaited! |
I am pretty sure that the KR7A uses the same IC as the KG7. Look around for Vmods on that board. I think to get the voltage back to default with the vmod installed you need a 100kohm pot on pin7. If you want more than 2.08 or so then you'll need to do the 2nd phase vmod on pin 11 (another 100kohm) and that should let you go as high as you dare. Lookthe KG7 vmod up before you do it though as I haven't ever done a Vmod on that mobo.

www.ocinside.de have done one for the kg7/kr7

Solder a wire to Pin 7 of the HIP6301 IC that controls the voltage to the CPU. Put a 100k trimmer (49 cents at Radio Shack part # 271-284) between Pin 7 and ground. You can add a 1k trimmer (271-280) in series with the 100k trimmer if you would like to make it easier to fine tune the voltage. Use a spade lug or loop under a motherboard mounting screw for your ground connection. For convenience I suggest you mount the trimmers on a piece of breadboard and secure it to your motherboard tray with Velcro.
Pin 7 controls the voltage feed back. Turn the trimmer or trimmers to full resistance boot your PC and start VIA Hardware Monitor. Set the polling interval to 2 seconds and slowly dial up the Pin 7 trimmer until the screen blanks. Your PC will probably reboot when the screen blanks. Note the voltage and back it off a tad while the computer reboots. |
Thanx guys! That's perfect!
I'll tell you all how it comes out when I get the time to do it. I already picked up the trimmers a few weeks ago in anticipation of doing this mod on both my mobo and video card. No pencil bullshit here... |
