HDD Led Mod

Just completed my HDD led mod. I now have a HDD led that is green for no access, blue for scsi access, red for ide access and purple to both, and it looks amazing. :) I'm pretty tired now though, so you'll have to wait for tm for pics.
Also my power LED is now red for on and blue for suspended. :)

I really like the sound of that! My rare black MS Natural
keyboard is done in green, orange, blue, and looks really
nice. I can't wait to see you mod, and how you did it!

futRtrubL 02-07-2002 09:32 PM

Yes, tell us how you did it. I'm especially interested in how the power LED goes blue when suspended. Is there a signal given by the mb in suspend mode?

Brad 02-08-2002 05:37 AM

that sounds really cool butch.

I guess he did the standby one by using the 5vsb line

Here's the pic:

left to right: no access, scsi, both, ide, suspend.

Suspend signal is from the suspend header on the board. IDE and scsi both have their own led headers. Main power is 12V off a molex. As for how it's done, 3 opto-isolators, 3 not gates, a nor gate and some transistors for LED drive. Circuit diagram to follow :)

Do all new mbs have suspend headers?

Edward

Should do, this is on my KT7A.

Nice idea, Butcher. Compact and still functional.

resago 02-09-2002 01:41 PM

mm gates, brings back boolean algebra nightmares;) something Kevin will get to experience soon enough, (EE right?)

Butcher 02-09-2002 05:23 PM

was that "EE right?" directed to me or kev? :p

Brad 02-10-2002 06:49 AM

kevin is studying electronics somewhere, so I'm guessing it was directed at him

I lust for more info. You using multiple LED's? How are you combining the light from the LED's into one output? I'm all confused.

Single RGB led. It has 4 elements inside, red, green, 2 blues. A bit of logic controls which of the elements are powered, inputs from the mobo hdd led connector and the scsi card hdd led connector.

That is [H]ARD

Cool!! Could you post the circut diagram? And where you got the kool rgb led? If you look at www.bit-tech.net, Macroman did something similar, but only with power and HD activity.

Lookin' foward to that diagram!

Butcher 03-07-2002 12:06 AM

Yes bit-tech is where I got the idea, I modified their circuit around a bit to give me the dual input functionality. :)

As for ciurcuit diagram, it's coming when I get time.

Brad 03-07-2002 03:30 AM

do you have time right now?

(your sitting in the chat room as I type this, so don't tell me you're busy :P )

Butcher 03-07-2002 05:13 AM

Idling in chat is not the same as not being busy.
To answer, no I dont :p
