How to best seal threaded fittings?
Time for the next installment of me learning about plumbing. I'll be redoing much of my system with new fittings pretty soon. Most are threaded in.
Should I use teflon tape or that plumbers goop? How about liquid teflon tape (or is that the same as goop?). My goal is absolute leakproofing. I'm soldering as much as possible, so I don't mind if its hard to dissasemble later on. |
Teflon tape should be fine, its hasn't failed me yet :D

liquid teflon tape sounds interesting, is it clear or white? Anyway, yes any of the afor mentioned sealants should work out well. Bladerunner uses some type of clear sealant on all of his work that looks VERY sharp and works well. I think he might have used epoxy but I'm not sure.

I used the liquid teflon, but it is very messy... If you remove a fitting with that stuff on it and you want to try and clean it... good luck. Maybe im just a mess but when I do it again im going with the tape. I also used a healthy smathering of silicon once my pipes were fitted, just for that extra something... ;)

Well I want absolute overkill on all my fittings, so I think I'll test the liquid stuff.
Also, can you solder brass fittings to a copper block? I didn't think of that. |
I know I've seen brass and copper soldered together before, so why not?

clear silicone sealant works grate, GOOP too.... and it looks the best....

if its a soldered copper block, just be sure you dont get it too hot and melt the other solder joints open , also , dont plan on doing it with a little hobby torch, youll need MAPP gas at a minimum, I use oxy-acetelyne when doing work on copper blocks... :rolleyes: |
