I'm looking for everyone's thought on this one: On the OCH res/pump

What does everyone think of the combonation reservoir/ 500gph pump on www.overclockershideout.com ? I have to say it looks decent.. however... I not sure how trusting I am of cpufx after I read about the z4. In all reality.. I would like a eheim 1250 and make a quality reservoir, however I would like to keep space taken up at a minimum too. But then again... I don't want some piece crapping up my cooling set up.
It looks solid but..well..yeah... give insight plz!

Thanks to all view/respond!

If space is an issue, then why don't you buy the Eheim 1250, and create a fill tube with a tee section? Also, you can always connect a reservoir directly to the intake on the 1250. I bought an Eheim 1048 which is a little smaller. It works great with 1/2" tubing, and it's a little smaller.

12V pumps are usually belge pumps, and are not designed for continuous use or reliability like aquarium pumps (people don't want dead fish).

Dooby 02-16-2002 11:57 PM

LOL! no they don't....

redleader 02-17-2002 12:33 AM

Ugh its a DC pump? I'd avoid it like the plague and stick to AC pumps.

Brad 02-17-2002 02:11 AM

if you run it 24/7 it will last a month at the absolute best

Hozie 02-17-2002 06:08 PM

I gotta admit it looks spiffy though....

MeltMan 02-17-2002 06:13 PM

Umm... there's a plugin on that pump. It is NOT 12V, maybe they mean its a 12v turn on. Yeah, it does look spiffey, but how big is it? It looks huge!

Hozie 02-18-2002 05:08 AM

This is a blurb I got from the Ipkonfig review:

http://www.ipkonfig.com/Reviews/Misc...4/index3.shtml

At the time of this review, the reservoir was equipped with a 145 GPH (Gallons Per Hour) pump. OCH has since upgraded the reservoir pump to 500 GPH!

[i]The image above also shows the power source as an outlet connection. The new 500 GPH reservoir plugs straight into a 4 pin Molex connector in the computer case. Simply, the company is always making changes to improve, some due to customer feedback.[\i]

So I guess it used to be AC, and they've changed that to DC. Is that such a bad thing? The great part is that it now turns on when you press the power button, wich saves you the trouble of switching your pump on...

You can turn computers OFF? hehe. Pumps are designed for continous duty, and I see no reason to switch them on and off other than to bleed the system. The 12VDC pumps if they are anything like the others I have seen sold are quite a bit noisier than an Eheim or Danner magdrive pump (or even the Rios) and Brad is correct they are typically designed for occasional usage and not continous work like a cooling loop.

go here, it has pics showing CPUFX's resevior/pump in a Lian Li (look closely; it fits right inside the lower hdd cage directly in front of the 2 intake fans).

if your looking for pumps, why not get the Danner mag-drive 350GPH pump (it costs like $25 less then the Eheim 1250). i got mine from Petsmart.

It's pretty, but thats all it's got going for it. The pump in there is a joke, 12v Bilge pumps DO NOT self cool. In other words, the pump is getting hotter and hotter while it is running, not too good for pump life. Bilge pumps are designed for short, powerfull runs to move water out of the bilge of a boat...not for continuous reliable opperation. With that said it is a DC pump meaning it plugs into your PSU and draws power from your system where it is needed. Finally it is from OCH/CPUfx which says everything in and of it's self. My advise? Run from this piece of s*** and never look back, it'll save you a lot of grief in the end. Just get an Eheim 1250 and forget about having problems ever again.

Whats the GPH of the 1250? And is it pretty quiet? I don't want my case to sound like a fishtank

Cyco-Dude 02-18-2002 04:17 PM

317 gph according to DD. from what ive read, its silent. here's a link to DD's pumps page.

decodeddiesel 02-18-2002 04:19 PM

the 1250 is app 315 GPH. As to sound, Eheim is probably the most quiet pump you can buy anywhere. I have isolated my pump with some egg crate foam (or any soft packing foam) just where is sits in the case. Literally you cannot hear the pump with the side of the case on without putting your ear about 3 inches from the case. They are by far the quietest pumps I have ever used, they are as close to silent as you can get with having moving parts. Also they are by far the most reliable pumps you can buy, worth every penny IMO.

it's still an idea to mount an eheim on rubber bushings, or some other form of insulation against vibration

Triton 02-20-2002 01:58 PM

Mounting on rubber bushings seemed like a great idea. But in the end I'm just going to place the eheim on some of foam pads to reduce noise. The bushings will transmit more vibrations to the case than foam. Just place the pump on foam unless you absolutely need to lock the pump in place.

Pyrotechnic 02-20-2002 10:36 PM

even if that bilge pump did last a month, it would throw tons of heat into the water:rolleyes:
