What am i doing wrong ? Crappy temps :(

Im getting really crappy temps with my watercooling setup in my new comp :(

Systembasics:
epox 8kha+
xp1600+@1667mhz/1.8v
256mb crucial unbuffered yadda yadda pc2100 mem @turbo settings cas2, 2.6v
msi mx400 64mb

cooling:
Hayden low pressuredrop model (the large one) /w sunon 83cfm 120mm@7v...
Eheim 1048
homemade bigbore copper wb...

My mbm says i have 41c cpu temp... i dont think this is possible... i was gettin 48c with my old taisol heatsink...

I know that the mb cou probe is crap but still gives me an idea.
Tomorrow im gonna shroud the fan as this probably will give me a little better temps...

ambient 02-19-2002 09:50 AM

put the fan back @ 12v see how much better it does

BrianW 02-19-2002 10:05 AM

What is your ambient?
,
I have a similiar setup, same cpu and i get up to 40.0 at full load. Of course I am cooling the geforce3 as well. My ambient is around 25c right now and i am getting 34.6 on the side of the die and on the mbm5 temp.

I just turned on seti, ill take a shower and tell you what the cpu temp os when i get out.
...34.6

heheh

well ill run seti while i am at work and post the temp when i get home tonight...

Also what BIOS are you running on your 8KHA+? I got my EPoX and flashed the latest official BIOS, later when I flashed the new beta BIOS I noticed a +5C difference in temps. I too am running hotter than I would like on my 8KHA+, it idles at 39C MBM and loads at 44C. I think it is partly inconsistancy in the socket probe and also my poor old Dangerden MAZE 2 original. Still even with these temps I am able to get a really good OC and my system is very quiet.

[dannzig] 02-19-2002 11:38 AM

it seems like it have stabilized itself on 40c with the fan @7v.... and its SO much quieter.... anyways the socket temp probe is full of shit... gonna get myself a real external reader to read the temps with..... do you guys use shims by the way ?

RickCain 02-19-2002 12:30 PM

hmmm

hmmm... I am getting 33c on FULL load and 30c idle during the day and at night 27c under load (playing RCW) for a few hours. I am using a DD setup (Maze2, super cube, 1050 pump with 2 120mm fans running 7volts on the rad). I am measuring the temps by the onboard sensor and a DD5 with probes on each side of the die. These two probes are within 2mm of the die so the temps are pretty close I hope.

You sure you got all of the air out of the system? I let mine run for 8 hours and then moved the CPU/GPU blocks around to get the air out. I then shook the radiator a few times to ensure all of the air is out. You'd be amazed how any bubbles come out of the blocks and radiator once they are rattled.

The other possiblity is your waterblock isn't removing enough heat.

YES, I used a shim this time!

Setup:

MSI KT266 Pro-2 RU
PC 2700 DDR
XP1800+ running 1.72 g (155x 11.5)
Enermax 465 watt PS
GF3 Ti500

my computer room is extremely warm.. my casetemp o 29degrees. with the case open. no fans attached inside... running totalt in the open. maybe i could install a 92mm fan or something to get some of the hot air out....

RickCain 02-19-2002 02:13 PM

Yes, you must figure that if your case is 29c then the radiator doesn't have a chance unless you are pulling in fresh air and then pulling it out of the case. From what I have read, you typically get 15c variance between ambiant and cpu temp. If your case is 29c (ambiant) then your temps are good!. You should be getting 44c if the above statement is correct.

Sounds like we just worked through your problem!

[dannzig] 02-19-2002 02:30 PM

the radiator is outside of the case. the roomtemp is about 25-26c
so im not really far of anyways :)

BrianW 02-19-2002 07:53 PM

Im back from work and my cpu temp is 41.6.
this thing is a heater. my ambient has raised to 28c

water temp is: 30.9

well these temps are good fer me.

ntw i get about 4 degrees variance going from max fan voltage to about 7-8...

hope it helps.

Brad 02-19-2002 11:28 PM

you have a 29C case temp, which is obviously screwing up the temps for your insocket probe, as you have no airflow around the socket

Pyrotechnic 02-19-2002 11:35 PM

i have an epox 8kha+ with the CPU, GPU and chipset watercooled, mbm 5 is saying 41c for th CPU with no airflow aroung the board and the VRM next to the socket getting hot.

mkosem 02-21-2002 05:05 PM

I'm not sure, but you may be past the normal efficiency point of that rad. try ducting the airflow somehow
