DC Pumps?
 

Hi Guys,

I've been reading for a while now. I am impressed with the depth of knowledge.

I was wondering if there are any DC pumps out there that are worth a crap? Seems like all of the good one are AC. Why is that?

well... cause pumps for watercooling a pc need to run relably 24/7 for years... pretty much the pumps that fit this specification are aquarium pumps... which would all be connected to mains and so ac. only problem with this is that aquarium pumps never get turned off... however some ppl might want to turn off their pc pumps.. so that can be a slight problem.. but oh well

dc pumps are normally bilge pumps. These arent built to run 24/7 but instead short bursts, so when you make them run 24/7 their is a fair chance they will crap out after a month or 2

apart from that, they have no torque whatsoever, use power from the computer psu, and produce lots of heat and noise

I found a 12volt pump that kick's a$$. It's rated for continous operation. I will be installing my watercooling system this weekend and it has a Rule 203ST livewell pump. Here is another one I found about a month ago while i was researching 12volt pump's. This is a new product and is hard to get. When they are readily avalable I will be upgrading to this pump. Here's the link http://www.jabsco.com/util_marine.asp

the F series looks like fun, but owch, a lot of power draw...

IIRC my Physiscs class corectly, AC pumps are inherintly much better because they need only one moving part (the impeller) while DC pumps have several.
