where can i buy a pre-tested AXIA core or non-pre-tested the cheapest? im on a budget and im switching over to AMD platform and not lots of money. LMK at quikman3838@home.com or here

I suggest you go to a local store, ask for a 1GHz Athlon, as long as they have a recent stock, they should have an AXIA, ask to look at the core before handing over the cash or check or whatever you pay with. If it's not an AXIA, walk out. That's what I did, and now I'm at 1.6GHz.. Consider the extra you pay when buying local your "pre-tested" fee. :)

how much do you think one of em would run me on average?

Yeah, I agree. Go to a local store and check out their selection. Look at the cores themselves before you buy. AVIA cores are just as good and sometimes better than AXIA, and I've heard rumors of AZIA cores which I would get without hesitating. Me, heh, I've got an AKEA Duron :)

ok now that i know where to get them and what to look for, i need to know some specs on them. first off, if i was to run it 1.6 ghz, what would i need for cooling?
second, is there a special motherboard brand or model i need to run one at 1.6 ghz? and last, how much do you think one of these AXIA or AVIA t-birds would cost me? thanks alot toby lawrence |
The T-Birds are most likely the same price no matter what kind of core they have. There is no actual Guarentee that you will be able to hit 1.6GHz, but you would most likely need some kind of active cooling. I would recommend the Abit KT7 series of boards. I have the KT7a-RAID. Hope this helps. Good luck on your project.
