Another block design

1 Attachment(s)
the inlet is 1/2", the channels are 3/8" x1/2", the block is 3/4" of an inch high, with a 1/4" thick base, the outlets are 3/8". The holes are the position of the amd mounting holes, a P4 version wouldn't be hard to do.

comments?

intriguing. Is that two outlets I see? Hardcore!

Brad 03-01-2002 11:04 PM

yes, so you can have two rads, then a manifold, then a pump, then back to the block. It's to maximise waterblock flow, while keeping radiator flow near the radiator's optimal point

Volenti 03-02-2002 06:03 AM

Very nice, pretty wide though, wouldn't fit on my motherboard (Epox 8kta3+) without hitting the chipset heatsink, and hanging 10mm over the edge of the board on the other side.

But on a motherboard that it would fit on it'd be a goer:)

I'm getting a bit bored with labyrinth style waterblocks, when i get around to making another one I'll try a finned design, mabie including the 1 in 2 out style of yours.

jaydee 03-02-2002 10:51 AM

Biggest problem I see it it is to long. Almost 3 3/4". Wouldn't fit on any of my boards and a lot of other boards. other than that it looks good.

Fixittt 03-02-2002 10:56 AM

Yeah, about 3 inches is all I was able to get away with and still be compatable with most MB`s. might be able to get a little longer, but it becomes a problem

Brad 03-02-2002 02:31 PM

it isn't 4 3/4", it's 3 5/8" Regardless though, a 92mm x 50mm will fit on both sockets of my VP6, and both sockets of the Iwill, Asus, and Epox dual athlons.

Looking at the 8kta3+, it wouldn't hit the NB, but it would be off the side of the board by about 5mm

Doh your right I hit the wrong number.

Brad 03-02-2002 03:14 PM

comparing it to a maze 2, it is 6mm longer on either side, which isn't too much at all

those look like my double spirl in out ones i posted a while ago on here

Brad 03-02-2002 06:21 PM

yeah, I got bit of inspiration from those, but I've been working on dual outlets for a while now

AL666 03-02-2002 06:36 PM

excellent job Brad...

Brad 03-02-2002 06:56 PM

thanks Al, DDen will be making the socket A one for me whenever they have time, it will probably go to Joe for the waterblock roundup first though

Fixittt 03-02-2002 07:02 PM

on some of those, you also have to consider that the whole diameter for the mouting bolts is not that small, I see at least 1 that will not work in that configuaration.

U might try either making the outlet channels shorter, or angled and shorter. Having that mounting hole thrue the channel wall is not a good idea, when you go to drill it, it will either warp badly, break the wall, or cause the wall to be super thin, and sprining a leak over time.

my chump change worth

Brad 03-02-2002 07:06 PM

well, it doesn't really matter how big the hole is in the mobo, the hole can be smaller and just have a washer at the other end.

as far as the hole in the channel goes, it's the only place that will do, unless a Z4 style mounting adapter is to be used underneath the block

Fixittt 03-02-2002 07:12 PM

well I know I dont want to have 3 pounds of copper suspended on a itty bitty set of bolts. that would be insain, I would recomend planning on making holes the same size as the holes in the mother board. That way U can use a little heavier bolt. Plus very thin long bolts and nuts can somewhat be hard to find.

maybe if you angled the channels a bit to create more material in those 4 locations ( In some of the designs 2 locations) that way you would get the best of both worlds. But utter then that...... They are worth a shot Brad.

U are obsessed with having a bunch of tubing running to your chip aint U?

Brad 03-02-2002 07:53 PM

it isn't that small, still 3mm across (I believe the current nylon bolts dden uses are about 4mm across.

Brad 03-04-2002 12:25 AM

I might be able to get a block made in Aluminium with the blue leds through stevo, I think it would look quite cool, anyone have any suggestions as to where the leds should be?

jaydee 03-04-2002 10:25 PM

I really like that 66X50mm one. IF I had more time I would try and make one. Don't have anything to test it with though anymore.:( *Sigh*

Fixittt 03-04-2002 10:29 PM

ahh Poor Jay.

What I am thinking for a test rig is a 120 watt pelt. With nothing on the bottom adding heat. I think this will give consistant results, and U can insure consistant mounting.

Now, who wants to trade out for some matching pelts?

Sounds like a plan and a more reliable way to test being it pretty much removes any mounting problems that may happen. Do you have a power supply to handle them?

Fixittt 03-04-2002 10:37 PM

yeah, I have a HUGE 1500 watt 12 v power supply that I got out of an old server case. This thing ran a bunch of Cards and about 12 120mm fans, I use it primaraly to run the 600 watt car amp And 4 12 subs. It can take it, with ease

Brad 03-04-2002 11:37 PM

i'm sure dtek wouldn't mind giving you a couple of pelts, (if you *shipped* spirals he might give you heaps of them :P )

I think I'd use the 66 x 50 one for non pelt and single pelt use, cause it'd have less flow resistance than the other designs
