watercooling kit advice
 

I whant to go and watercool :)
the problam is thet i live in israel :(
my uncle is comming from the US in about a month and i whant to order a watercooling kit from him.
the problam is thet in israel we use 220v and in the US 110v
and i dont realy whant to buy a transformer.
can u guys suggest a good kit (i cant tell my uncle to buy parts from multipel stores) thet will run on 220v or from the PS.

Have him pick you up a good water block (I reccomend Dangerden) and possibly a Radiator (whatever suits your needs). You can pick up the rest of the stuff locally. Get a good inline pump (cruise the local pet stores), some tubing (any hardware store), and other misc hardware. Should come together quite easily..

i know i can buy a pump localy but
i whant to do a 1/2" kit
will the pump fit?

Can't you just tell your uncle to go to dangerden or cooltechnica and pick out the parts that you want? You'd save some money that way, I think.

if i get the pump from dangerden(110v) it wont work in israel(220v) !!!

I'm in NZ, we are 240v. My waterblocks came from DDen, you could get the rads from DDen too.

For the pump, go around pet stores, gardening stores, building stores. I've bought pumps from both pet stores and gardening stores over here. Check those out first

I don't think dangerden or cooltechnica sells 220V pumps though... why don't you order the kit without the pump and get the pump from a local store?
The best price I saw on the net for a complete kit is over at cooltechnica.com ... I bought the parts for my new 1/2" setup from them...

I got my stuff from Dange Den, but I doubt they have a 240 v pump. Eheim is made in Germany, so they must make a 240 volt unit.

If your Uncle orders from Danger Den do it early, they ship a little slowly.

Yeah, but I have what is considered an "old" MB now. Been trying to decide what to upgrade to, but everytime I make a choice seems something better is around the corner.

That's why last month I switched over to water cooling. Gave me an excuse to spend some money and have a little fun.

Check this site out, Click Here Peter who has designed this system has a great idea. In another forum that I hang out in a very respected person performed a test under very strict conditions with the blocks mentioned below. The Gemini water block outperformed the DD block using the same components. Even the Swift out performed the Maze 2 block. The complete test will be posted soon.


Pump: Eheim 1048 (158gph)
Radiator: D.D. Heater core (low pressure drop)
Tubing: 3/8" ID Silicon
Vertical lift: 4 inches (insignificant)
All Water Blocks 3/8" ID straight hose barbs
All Water blocks inlet water temperature 25C
CPU: Athlon XP1600 12.5x145 (1822 Mhz) @ 2.05Vcore = 112.5Watts

Gemini High Flow Core Temperature=41C Efficiency=.14c/w (consistent)
Gemini Low Flow Core Temperature=41C Efficiency=.14c/w (consistent)
Swiftech MCW-462u Core Temperture=43C Efficiency=.16c/w (consistent)
D.D. Maze-2 Core Temperature=45C Efficiency=.17c/w (best of three tries)

I was totally surprised by the results, especially the Danger Den Maze-2. I was equally surprised that the Gemini Low Flow block did as well as the High Flow block, considering the slower flow rate that the 1/4" channel causes. (120GPH vs 158GPH)

Interesting. I have forgotten, did you go with the Maze2 in your setup or not? I know it isn't completed yet, or is it?

Do you have any idea if the high volume Gemini spiral block has 1/2" fittings or are they also 1/4" as in the low volume? I couldn't find that info on the link page.


In addition, have you seen the temps they are posting over at AMD.mb with that AX-7 HS (air cooled); quite low indeed. Beginning to wonder if all this water cooling hardware is worth the trouble? :shrug:

I'm not surprised. Since they used a Eheim 1048 and the Genini site says that the high flow block will not perform better with anything under 360GPH ACTUAL FLOW RATE! Thats 6 GPM BTW.

Why didn't they try it with the 1250? And how about against the Maze2 with 1/2" barbs since that is their high flow block and it would do better?

the temps with the AX-7 are still higher than watercooling, it is just their setup that shows low temps, with a waterblock the temps would be even better

Jim, I ordered a Gemini High Volume Block. No the system is not finished as stated what happen to my son. Things are getting back to normal and hope to have the system up and running soon

I today ordered one of the high volume Gemini blocks. Thought it was worth a try. I am going to add another "T" in my setup just after the outlet on the water block.

What are you going to do with the 3/8" barbs on the Gemini? I haven't decided either to downsize the whole system or use reducers. Right now I am not too pleased with the "SMELL" coming from the 1/2" silicon tubing in my system. I have sinus trouble and the odor bothers me. I wrapped the tubing with pipe insulator and the smell in mostly gone,but wow what a crowded case! I would have thought after three weeks plus, the tubing would have stabilized, but no. Maybe I'll go with 1/2 flexible tube; I know it is not as good, but I have no sharp bends in my rig so it should be OK.\


EDIT: Cancelled my order for the Gemini, going to re-route the tubing on my current setup with the MAZE2 and eliminate (I hope) air trapping in the block.
