they're running them in Dos

Fixittt 03-04-2002 04:37 PM

what program do you use to machine the blocks???

Fixittt 03-04-2002 04:45 PM

well for that small of a quantie I think that if you paid for shipping, I would not be terably hurt in letting U have them, just let me get my sheet cut up ok?

I drew the block is Smart cam a 2 1/2 d cad cam software, only about $7,000

Fixittt 03-04-2002 04:46 PM

rough is fine

there is a machine shop in my school we have 3 big ass horizontal mills and a vertical one

think it would be hard to make a circle?

Fixittt 03-04-2002 04:55 PM

on a manual mill, yesssssssssss

on a CNC mill, NO PROBLEM!

PetDMC 03-04-2002 05:00 PM

aaah crap!

the CNC's we have are messed up and are using torsim in DOS

i think i'll have to borrow the manual

i wish i could steal one of them :D :D

those bastards running them on 640k of memory

Fixittt 03-04-2002 10:17 PM

why are the dementions of the circles U want machined into the tops? maybe I can help U out with that.

I do happen to have a desktop CNC machine in my garage

PetDMC 03-05-2002 06:52 AM

that's what i'm gonna do

but i need to make up the dimensions

i have two copper block just sitting here waiting to be machined and hopefully i'll start this week

the dimension of the circles is 18mm radius

but there might be a change in design

e-mail me:
PetDMC@hotmail.com

Fixittt 03-05-2002 08:33 AM

it would be best if U emailed me
as I am at work and pressed for time most of the time.

PetDMC 03-05-2002 11:02 AM

np :D

Fixittt 03-05-2002 11:28 AM

Well, I am getting some 4 in strip cut just for U.

So U can stick with your original idea.

well i got the manuals for the destop CNC we have at school (it's a blue one :D)

and with the circle making... @ school we have a vise that can be turned 360* for the manual mill

but i don't think we have any bits for plastic, i know there's some for steel and aluminum

iceheart 03-05-2002 03:44 PM

Dunno about milling, but when drilling you use steel bits at a low rpm (100-500, to avoid melting the plastic).

Fixittt 03-05-2002 08:47 PM

the same for acrylic and milling, use a 1/2 in end mill at very low RPM should work good if the endmill is really sharp, remember you want chips coming off, not dust or melting plastic.

iceheart 03-06-2002 01:02 AM

If you are an impatient bastard you can do it faster but you need plenty of cooling water all the time, like really flowing over it.

Fixittt 03-06-2002 08:12 AM

isthat desktop CNC machine U have at school a MAXNC machine?

Mine is a blue one

EDIT: See that plastic box on the floor by the mill? UMMMM SPIR@L goodness!!!

PetDMC 03-06-2002 09:54 AM

the one we have at school is alot bigger than yours :D

we have two of'em
one is like a old POS (the colours are green, looks like its from the 70's :D )

i'll try and get some pics of it

i bet if you had the one we have you could make twice as many Spir@ly's

BTW i'm at skool :D :D :p
