crazy new h2o box... need a good mATX mobo..
ok i just got a sony desktop from bestbuy (dont ask, it was free)
anyway i REALLY like the interior of this case... except for the power supply... anyway i wanna watercool this case. i want to pull out the mobo and proc and i need a good mobo to go in it... anyone know of good matx boards that OverClock? the board measures 10" tall, 9.5-9.8" wide, and the case has 4 spaces for slots..... i assume that this is mATX |
If you tell me where the line is at Best Buy for free comps. :D
J/K I've heard that there is a killer MATX board from Asus that overclocks well. Newegg probably has it. |
yeah thats matx, asus do a few, and abit does one too, and thats about it
|
looked into the abit... heard it kinda sucks for performance... the builtin gf2 is nice... but doesnt perform well
i will look into asus right now |
if you turn off the gf2 then it performs really well. it's just part of the chipset really. and who said you were looking at athlon only, abit do a nice p4matx board, and asus have a huge range
|
The Asus that I was talking about is for a P4.
Your probably looking for an Athlon board though, right? Here is a link to the asus http://ftp.cvut.cz/Asus/mb/sock478/p...s333fx-100.pdf |
that isn't matx, thats flexatx which is even smaller
|
Well thats the smallest board that I've seen. Yeah, its small. :evilaugh:
|
yea, that board is 1 slot smaller than a mATX.
here are my plans: Eheim 1250 Maze2 DD Geforce block chipset block HD block Chevette core if i can fit it, or a BIX with a 120mm non cooling system: currently there is a CDRW, DVD, Floppy, 3.5" hard drive, and a tiny 160W psu over the processor. im gonna replace the psu with a pcp&c 400W ATX psu and find a way to mount it on the top. i also wanna add a second hard drive and also add a DigitalDoc5 this is going to be a way overdone microstealth i plan on doing as little cutting to the case as possible. the only major cutting i want to do is to add cool designs and lighting. and i REALLY want to keep everything inside the case. who thinks i can do all that? as for the mobo: im thinkin that i will get this case done as is, then upgrade the mobo/proc right now it DOES have an AGP slot so thats a good thing, along with 3 PCI the proc is a celeron 1.3gig. i would like to OC the hell out of it, but i dont know how to on that mobo. anyone know how to force an OC via proc modification or something? |
You could get a 300W 1U PSU from servercase.com I bought the seventeam 300W PSU a while ago. It works with my XP1800 overclocked to 1.67Ghz.
I have no idea how you will overclock that mobo though, good luck with the proprietary BS. I wouldn't even try. |
i wanna go full out =) so ill just go for a PCP&C hehe
here are some pics if you guys wanna know what im dealin with http://digitalsimplicity.com/mike/sony/side.jpg http://digitalsimplicity.com/mike/sony/angle.jpg http://digitalsimplicity.com/mike/sony/closed.jpg |
Well Seventeam is just as good.
I have 1U psu's from both companies and I used the one from Seventeam because it has higher current capability. |
you can't wire anything to 133mhz fsb, which I think is all you could possibly do in the bios, or using jumpers
|
those Power supplys look cool, but they are to deep, i need something under 5" deep
as for the fsb... i was also wanting to change the multiplier if possible |
Can you unlock a Celeron?
If so then maybe you can hardwire the CPU for a higher freq. |
No one has mentioned the Epox 8KHM motherboard. It is supposed to have the same features as the 8KHA+. It used the KT266A chipset. I've wondered about building a small system around this board before.
|
The 8KHM is vaporware unfortunately.
|
celrons are hardlocked you have to use the fsb to overclock um... they suck unless you get a really good bx board but thats sdr ram anyways...

Hmm, I stand corrected apparently. Though there still isn't any bios or manual on epox's site. Someone should let Una know they are available if he doesn't already, his project was on hold waiting for it iirc.
|
hmm, would you really trust a board manufacturer who can't follow spec?

For anyone looking to buy this board I've seen it at the following sites: Directron - $82 Bunta.com - $79 AccessMicro - $80 |
I was hoping for a matx nforce without the onboard video, but I guess there isn't much market for matx boards with no video.
|
yeah, I doubt there will be any matx 415 boards released, but still, just turn the onboard video off
|
ok... now im having second thoughts on this project.
this would be an awsome case except the mATX is starting to make me have second thoughts... anyone know of a small ATX case that is modular like this one? modular i mean things like how this sony has a cage for the PSU, HD, Floppy, and cd drives. these cages pull out completely with a pull or push of a tab.. NO SCREWS. im not looking for those slide rails for your drives.. i want the whole cage to come in and out wiht no tools. |
