How much is WCing going to cost me?
Ok, I realize that there is a fairly large initial expenditure required for watercooling, especially if you want to get good parts.
I'm just trying to figure out how much I should be looking at, roughly? I intend to cool with no pelts and only a moderate overclock (Duron 600@1050 - Runs stable with FOP-32 and no case fans). Where should I invest the bulk of the money? Where can I settle for cheaper parts? What components can I omit completely (i.e. UV dye - is it necessary?)? Let me know what price range you guys think I should be aiming for. Thanks :) |
NO more than $200.
get yer hose and res. at home depot along with some hose clamps and the barbs. Don't forget the Plumbers goop! I wouldn't get anything other than the dangerden maze2 waterblock. It wouldn't hurt to get the maze2.1 or maze2.2 for future expansion. Water cooling is addictive. the good radiators online all cost about the same. $55 - $60. |
Goop is for insulating components, is it not? I'm not doing sub-zero cooling, so why would I need Goop?
|
goop is good for sealing.
sealing your pump, resivoir(if you build your own), sticking things to your case, etc. |
If you're just getting into watercooling, grab the Aquastealth II kit for just $127.99. It really is nice from what i've heard. I'd like to get one for testing.

where can i look at the aquastealth kit?
|
You can get the Senfu WC kit for $134.99 from www.plycon.com. Read Una's article on cheap watercooling here. He did it for $48 bucks!!!
|
I heard that the senfu isn't all that great, but go for whichever you like. www.aquastealth.com is the addy.

Don't buy a kit...get the good stuff now and avoid replacing the junk later because it barely beats your old hsf....
|
I agree with Jtw0128 that it'd be best to get seperate parts yourself, but Joe's got Infinipro listed on his worklog. $84 for a kit.
|
Nevermind about the $88, that's $88 without the $62 radiator. The full thing will cost ya $150. Not necessarily the best performing kit available, but certainly the best looking.

my rad was 33.00 my pump 29.99 and my waterblock was 59.99, 6 ft of 1/2 od tubing @ $.20a foot, 6 hosebarbs at 2.10 a piece 4x4x2 marine junction(water res) box 5.59 double threaded hose end+ cap 3.50 Hose clampsx8 @ $.38 a piece. had rtv sealent, fans, thread past anf plumbers goop. for a grand total of 148.91. Ps besides the water block DO NOT BUY ANY OTHER PARTS FROM AN OC STORE. the radiator I bought from an atuo store is selling on some OC sites for between $40-60 and you still have to pay their padded shipping prices. If you want I'll give you a detailed list of where to buy what I'm running. I did buy an expensive waterblock though. MCW462. P.S. the total price if you bought the same parts from an OC store was $230.60!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
|
I say BUY A KIT. You may be able to get better stuff if you piece things out, but if it is your first time watercooling, it will be nice to have all the parts in one box and an instruction manual. Plus, the aquastealth 2 kicks ass! (so I hear... ;))
