any relay will do that. as long as its 12v DC (coil) triggering 120v AC (switch)

MeltMan 03-20-2002 11:29 AM

Go to radio shack, they have plenty of cheap 12v coil relays. Or you could just leave your pump on all the time, like I do.

DigitalChaos 03-20-2002 12:11 PM

yea, pump relays are BAD. you should always leave your pump on, unless you want to replace it often.

Haddy 03-20-2002 12:16 PM

ys this? the pumps doesnt like being turned on and off?

DigitalChaos 03-20-2002 12:19 PM

for the most part they are fish pumps. do you see fish pumps goin on and off constantly? no. thats why they last forever

MeltMan 03-20-2002 12:19 PM

well, if you are running an Eheim then dont worry too much, but if you're running a rio like my cheap butt, then turning on and off is a no no. It tends to be rough on the pumps and rio's are notorious for failing.

Yes Digital Chaos is right ^

DigitalChaos 03-20-2002 12:21 PM

itll kill an eheim too.
if you are looking for a more stealth hookup, just solder the line of the pump to the inside of the power supplys AC lines.

MeltMan 03-20-2002 12:22 PM

really? I thought eheims were the indestructable pumps around here...

DigitalChaos 03-20-2002 12:25 PM

they may be less prone, but any pump (or almost any mechanical thing) gets most stress when you power it up. treat it nice and you have less of a chance of failure =) then again if you arent gonna use your computer for a month... go ahead and turn off the pump, hehe

Brad 03-21-2002 12:48 AM

it's just normal 12v - 120v relay, nothing too special about it

Delta 03-22-2002 05:11 PM

or 12v coil and 230v switching if ur in england :)

Brad 03-22-2002 10:07 PM

or 240v if you're in NZ :P
