Modified and more modified to watercool my P4

So I modified my spiral waterblock which has found its way back to cooling a cpu. I had several different thoughts of how I was going to set up the waterblock for the socket 478 P4 but my final design turns out to be the easiest and quickest way to adapt a waterblock to the socket 478 motherboard.

I fabricated a top plate that helps centers the waterblock over the cpu and uses the original hsf mounting clip to install. There is nothing better than having an easy and presice way of installing your waterblock. The P4 is a 1.6a@2400Mhz (16x150) using 1.65 vcore. Full load temps are 32c.

There were other mods on this venture and you can see the pics here. I still have to make a shroud and finish the case but I do have a good start.

Did you spraypaint the entire rad? Wouldn't that cover the copper and inhibit heat transfer?

The loss of heat transfer due to paint will be nil. I have also been in debate several times of why most brass (no copper in heatercores) radiators are painted black. And came to the conclusion they are painted to stop exterior corrosion which would in time be much worse at performance than if painted.

Not to mention that heatercores are ugly in the raw. Unless you polish the tanks. But the core is still ugly.

Thanks;)

Fix has seen the mod and likes what I did also. He had been trying to figure out a way to setup the spiral w/b for the P4. So it might just be a matter of time:cool:

Sorry about that. I had to resize my pic to upload and lost the text.

It is a maze 2 cold plate I modded using 10-32 screws to secure the cold plate. Styrofoam=Frost:cool:

I couldn't find the pics, but if you get the cold plate, it wont be hard to figure out. The 3" screws mount the cold plate and then go through the motherboard and mounts on the back side of the motherboard like this.

oh ok i c now...i thought u had the cold plate bolted to the block somehow....my mistake

I was going to screw the cold plate to the bottom, like the maze, but the spiral is about 1.5-2mm shorther than the maze making it impossible.

Thanks Kevin and all for the nice comments. But frankly, most of this work is roughly done in my eyes. Seeing that most all of this is done with basic hand tools. Just hoping some block makers might pick up some of my ideas. The P4 setup is a charm. There is nothing like being able to safely attach your water block in 15 seconds.

I also have an idea for the peltier version w/b for the P4 which will be a much cleaner design.
