Introducing... "The Black Ice Evo Series"
Look what showed up in my mailbox today... "The Black Ice Evo"
The pictures speak for themselves, but a bit of background... This is a Black Ice Xtreme w/ a beautiful paint job. Wilbert from HWLabs is still experimenting with colors, but this is definitely a taste of things to come. A paint mixture is used on the outside of it while just a very thin coat is used on the fins. Wilbert tells me that this has an almost negligible performance impact. I'm going on break from UCSD this next week, but afterwards it is time to start work on the Chilli Pro watercooling project :). Thanks Wilbert! http://kevin.procooling.com/Blue%20BIX/Web%20Pix/6.jpg http://kevin.procooling.com/Blue%20BIX/Web%20Pix/4.jpg http://kevin.procooling.com/Blue%20BIX/Web%20Pix/3.jpg http://kevin.procooling.com/Blue%20BIX/Web%20Pix/7.jpg |
The camera does little justice to the metallic finish.
|
I do agree. I'll try and take another.

That is sweeeet. TNT2 when are these coming out into the world? I am planning a new box with all new H2O cooling and hopefully a custom WB as well;) . That paint job would look very nice with the lexan shroud I am planning to build.
|
Why doesn't anyone send anything to me! Oh the agony of it all
Very nice btw :D |
Argh... I'm trying to take better pix here, but I guess my camera isn't up to the task. Here's one that shows the metallic reflection of it, but it is much brighter in reality than it is in the pic.
http://kevin.procooling.com/Blue%20BIX/Web%20Pix/8.jpg I'm going to try once more and snag a better pic of it. -Kevin |
Wow beautiful ;)
I saw the pic of these new BIs over @ cooltechnica.com There's also a mention of Red one, too... BTW it seems like not only Xtreme, but prime and pro will also come in different colors as well... |
I've tried w/ light sources in front of the BI, behind the BI, both, etc... this was the best pic I could get.
http://kevin.procooling.com/Blue%20BIX/Web%20Pix/9.jpg I love it! duh... probably even cooler in an H2O cooling system yeah? -Kev |
that looks so good kevin, is it deeper than the normal BI? it looks it.
hey willie, how about a version for 172mm fans? |

yeah, I knew both questions were more directed at our favourite tnt2 user ;)
|
The magic is in holding one of these.
Kev's cam or my cam can't do justice to the finish. |
kev, maybe you should go outside on a really sunny day and take the pics, that sometimes helps
|
How about a pic using the flash?
|
I may be wrong, but this rad seems pretty small. has anyone tried it out thouroughly?

Slightly off-topic....
Kevin, how is the Chilli Pro case holding up? I was curious about the long term durability (screw thread stripping, etc) of the case. Are there any mods you have made you would considar vital for anyone to do? And lastly, hurry up and get that watercooling setup in there...I wanna see that. :D :D :D |

As far as I know yes they are the same radiator with a snazzy paint job.
|
darn, i hate when companies do that. If they are the same thing, why give them different names?
|
Is the metallic paint similar to a new car type metalic? If it is, that's pretty impressive, and I'd prolly end up staring at it for 3 hours before installing it :D
|
Function or style, u pick
I thought the idea of watercooling was to get better performance. I don't understand the idea of going backwards by painting a radiator with a non heat conducting material, this seems counter productive. What we should be looking into is coating radiators with thermal dispersant material. It allows the heat to be pulled from the metal faster. It's used a lot on engine cylinders and radiators to improve heat transfer. painting may increase temp only a few degrees but this may cool an extra few degrees, making the difference of more than a few degrees...i gotta look into it some more.....search for thermal dispersant and do some reading. tell me what u think
|
if the coating is really thin I can't see it mattering much, but this is something done for looks, not performance
|
I think this rad is aimed at people with a giant window in the side of their case. The standard black color of the BI-X doesn't look that shabby either.
|
I like the Chrome ones the best, but the Black BIs and the new colors look great!!
