I don't see the point in LN2 ... just kills your hardware ... let the japanese do that ...

Cryonosis 11-28-2000 11:49 PM

kills your hardware, how?

Joe 11-29-2000 08:59 AM

It wont directly kill your hardware, but the inch of ice it will create on your hardware will kill em.

also the extreme cold can make soldier joins as fragile as glass, and it will kill Capacitors by deep freez'n em.

All in all its just a bit too useless to be of any use to me.

If you notice ALL the projects on ProCooling INCLUDING DH3 are made with parts and materials you can score yourself through local shops. and they are meant to be long running projects, you cant run a LN2 system for more then a couple hours before you run out, and have to buy more. Also the fact you would prolly displace most of the air in the room you are in with N2.

No reason to do stuff that's too outlandish, or unachievable by the peeps who read the page. The REAL talent is when you can do stuff that's close to that intense with much more standard and safe materials. Which is the goal at procooling.

On a side note, my Dad was in Chicago at a big Medical Technologies Expo ( hes a Network engineer for L&H doing voice to data server setups for huge hospitals.) there was a huge tank of Flourinert with a monitor in side as a demo! http://www.procooling.com/ubb/smile.gif They had a big sealed cap on it to keep it from evaporating... since at 1000$ PER GALLON, that stuff is liquid gold. They use it to cool all MRI machines, and now some but 32way servers for doing data Analysis. Pretty awesome stuff!

What he said ..

It would be kind of cool to do a Vapochill-type thing, you were talking about some evaprator thing in a previous post somewhere around here.

It is a goal of mine.

How cold do you expect temps will be in this setup?

How exactly will his thing work?

Will it be cmpact enough to fit inside a case or will it take up a case on its' own?

Joe 11-29-2000 10:20 AM

Dunno... havent worked on that plan for months.

I am more concerned with DH3 right now.

Yea ... when is thta going to be done, can't wait to see the result of it http://www.procooling.com/ubb/smile.gif

the 2 target dates are:

in a week or so ( maybe longer as I am having some trouble with some other parts of the cooling system I was installing...) I will have the Complete Unveiling of DH3 with a huge write up on what it is. cause DH3 is more then just a computer system it is a Cooling Rig, that will house many systems and harware over time in it.
I will go over in detail every nook and cranny of that box to show you what I did http://www.procooling.com/ubb/smile.gif

In mid January ( or Early January) I will be getting all the computer hardware in and then I will have the first of many OC writeups with hardware in the case.

Man when you guys see this, you will know why I am calling it the most versitle cooling system made http://www.procooling.com/ubb/smile.gif If only I could get thes last few parts to freak'n not break!! ( spent 50$ on.. umm.. "things" that are going in it... and they all broke!!!!!! http://www.procooling.com/ubb/frown.gif ( no I wont tell you what they are)

okay, well if you guys don't want to do a LN2 rig then I suppose a phase changer evaporator system will do (it's how the vapochill and your fridge work). that will at least satisfy me http://www.procooling.com/ubb/wink.gif.

hope the DH3 is as cool as it sounds, can't wait to read the article.
