T-Bred sample
For you guys who haven't seen this little test of a AMD Thoroughbred 1700+ yet :D :
http://www.muropaketti.com/artikkelit/cpu/tbred_sample/ |
yes I have, it doesn't OC too well at all :(
|
Nah... it doesn't but it's probaly because it's a test sample. But it's goods to see that AMD is cabable of producing 0.13 micron chips though :)
|
Btw.. DAMN you're quick at replying!
:D |
Maybe because its factory engineered but I have a random feeling that proc isn't supposed to be unlocked.. wasn't thoroughbred supposed to stop unlockers?
|
There is coming more about that t-bred at Muropaketti, I know, I'm from Finland :(
There's going to be more broken dies ever, when t-bred comes to market. Damn those AMD guys are smart to make that small die. |
Yur right.. those cores will be smashed like a BUG under our watercooling and what not.
|
And people must get new shimms because that t-bred core is "so" much lower than palomino and tb (palomino and tb have almost same height cores).
But I must buy one of those t-breds next summer, that tb1,33 is no good for extreme OC |
Only lil girls use shims!!!!!!!!
|
You got that right Joe...
Threw mine away when er converted to watercooling, cause it took up all the place where I wanted to put a Senfu temp probe. I don't think that it's gonna be a bigger prob crushing them T-Bred cores than it is with T-Bird and XP cores. :) |

And you can use temp probe with shimm after some Dremel cutting :p |
Hey man thats no excuse, I have a 1.4Ghz Tbird core I have put over 100 different blocks and HSF's on and prolly swapped and re-mounted stuff over 200 -300 times. and NEVER a chip or as much as a scratch (even using the OCH "chip crusher" Reactor)
you just need to learn how to mount a HSF or block ;) |
I've never cracked a core either. One time I tried to crack my p3 500 with a fop32, I just couldn't hehe. I tried really hard as well
|
bah here goes the shim bashers......blah blah blah shims are for girls blah blah blah whatever.....im glad u guys have money lieing around cause i know i dont have another $100+ for a new processor, its safety. u dont go driving without ur seatbelt just cause u know ur a good driver...
|
And why shouldn't I use a shimm if a have tons of them (not that much but at the moment 10 different). And it's just for safety and a good copper shimm makes your about 2°C cooler.
|
I've seen just as many people have their shims move slightly nd short out their bridges or lift up the heatsink as people who like shims
and I've never seen anyone drop temps by using a shim |
I don't know what kind of shimms they sell in US but here in Finland we have just so damn great shimms ;)
I have made roundup of about 7 shimm and they all dropped cpu temps at least one degree. I'm now using xp copper shimm but it isn't as good as tb shimm. Also full copper performs better than silver plated copper shimm (I really don't know why). |

the only processor I used a shim on was my p3-800eb, that was becasuse there was no means of keeping a block stable on it with a lot ov moving. but since AMD has the nice pads, and intel has the IHS's there's really no need for them nowadays.

Ye.... you're right! Them pads does help stabilizing the cooler on top of the core :)
|
i used a shim once. then it got mangled by me rolling over it in a chair. i hate shims.

I look at it this way... Shim = piece of mind for me. So shim = good to me This is just like the Ricer and v8 muscle car debate... it's more opinion than anything else. |
Hahaha! I dont have an extra $100 laying around either. Thats why i cant afford a shim! lol. I did, however, somehow chip my sweetass athlon 700. Its ok though, i was being hasty trying to figure out why it wouldnt post at 892 when it did the day before, and ran stable. Anyways, long story short, chip still works, somehow i bumped a multiplier dipswitch.
Does that make me a DIP-switch? 892mhz rocks! wooo!! (the duron 1k is on the way) W00T!! |
