BI Prime/Xtreme or BI II for this setup?
Hi!
Im running a Duron 600 at 1200Mhz with a Vcore of 2.35 so there is ALOT of heat over here :) (a duron is harder to cool down than a Athlon/XP....the smaller core) Im using this right now: DD Maze2 DD Cube radiator (the first with aluminium fins) Eheim 1048 Papst 56Cfm fan The problem is that the system gets quite (correct spelling?) hot with a Vcore over 2 so with a Vcore at 2.35 it is hot :) So im thinking about replacing the Cube with a BI, but which BI is the best for me? The Prime/Extreme or II? I've heard that the Extreme stops the flowrate quite well so that radiator isnt that good? Well, rumors...what do YOU think. PLEASE help me out, can't deside..... /OC&Burn |
two times the overclock is sweet!!! Man if only my 950 could do 1200's hehe....1190 on a good day with air cooling....
|
Thanks :)
Love this processor, didn't even buy it, got it for free from a guy that didnt want it anymore (he got to 1080 aircooled). So at 1200Mhz (150fsb 2-2-2-5) it's not THAT slow. Can anyone help me out with my radiator question? /OC&Burn |
a chevette heatercore performed better for me than a BIX
i used a maze2, duron, eheim1250... just swapping out the BIX got me about 2 degrees better... and its cheaper. |
Ok, but Im interrested in a BI, any cons and pros about them? prime/xtreme/II....

dpeneds on what u want...
cheap+preformence+not all that good lookin=heatercore OR not so cheap+same preformence+great looking/small=bix **hehe sorry all the math things today been doing math work for like 4 straight hours** |

Thanks for the answer :)
But it's alot more than 70-75W :) I tried a XP1600+@1750+ (1500Mhz) 1.7Vcore = should be around 70-75W? And I got half the temperature im getting with the duron :D This is one HOT cpu :) Is there anyone here that knows how to calculate the W on the CPU? /OC&Burn |
no, but I would seriously look into getting a heater core. BIX are way overpriced.
Read this article for a full write-up on various rads.... http://www.overclockers.com/articles481/ ...very informative. Depending on size, heater cores can be had for cheap. Look under Ford or Ford trucks for some nice cores 6 1/8" wide by however tall. :) Find them here.. http://www.heatercore4u.com then go to autozone and buy them. $16-28USD... can't beat it. spend the extra money on porn... :D |

you're right haddy. I have been fooling around with heatercores for 6 months now and tryin to get them to work consistently, while still maintaining a good look is very difficult due to the fact that you have to address so many issues with them. Among those issues is how to mount fans to them and how to mount them inside your case. Heatercores work well, but the extra time and effort (AND money) you have to put into them to make then work as well as a Black Ice is not worth it in my opinion.

now c i said black ice xtreme (bix) not the black ice origninal (bi) theres a mondo diff betten those as far as preformence...but ive herd good things about the black ice 2 (bi2)

Yeah, I have that program myself but it isn't right, someone at another forum ones showed me a formula how to calculate the W...If I only could remember it. /OC&Burn |
if you want to fit it in the space the current cooling cube is in then buy the BIX as it's the same width and height. if you aren't worried about size, go for a BI2 as you can run 2x 120mm's on it

also for the guys with the watt test problems here http://www.benchtest.com/calc.html also ur generating ~118w there bubba...with a duron 600@1200 @2.35v |
OC&Burn --> My advise to you is that to get the best you can affort. No need to upgrade radiator later on.

the cores also look ugly...until you prime and paint them (im painting mine a dark metallic grey...looks good so far). the only thing the BIX has going for it that a heater core doesnt is that its easier to mount fans onto it, and its smaller (thus easier to mount into smaller cases). decide for yourself if its woth the extra $30...i think not. |

to ECU: actually, i did paint the fins. you dont paint striaght into them, you paint down at an angle so only that first aluminum part thats visible is painted while the fine copper fins or wires (or whatever it is lol) remains unpainted.
to Haddy: its a trade-off. the cores look uglier, and are a little more difficult to mount fans to (and typically bigger), but they cost a lot less  believe me, if i had the choice of a BIX or a heater core, id take the BIX lol, but the darn thing is just too expensive... |
lol, its not like I put a thick coat on, a light spraying will do :p
