polycarbonate good?
 

Is polycarbonate a good material to work with, in terms of cement-ability, durability, tensile strength, etc? SHould be fairly impact resistent, considering it's used for shooting glasses and such. Any suggestions?

It's more impact resistant, but not as stiff as acrylic. It's also slightly more prone to scratching unless it's got a scratch resistant coating on it (which SERIOUSLY bumps up the price).

poly carbonate is a stronger material than acrylic. It is less brittle and easier to drill and cut. It is more expensive and scratch prone. Abrasion resistant poly carbonate is approximately 1.5-3 times more expensive than regular poly carbonate. I get mine from a local plastics company and surplus store. Look up in your phone book "plastics" in the yellow pages. Call a plastics company and ask them if they have any scrap abrasion-resistant poly carbonate. That is the cheapest way to get it. I would use nothing less than 1/4in polycarbonate due to its inherent flexibility.3/8 in is strong and 1/2 in is very strong. www.McMastercarr.com sells both poly carbonate and acrylic and so does www.usplastic.com

it will work fine, but easiest is to buy a window kit from a case modding store, in lexan (lexan = polycarbonate)

I am not sure if poly carbonate comes in a cone shape. It probably does, but i haven't seen it. I am currently loooooooking on mcmastercarr to see if they do. Yep! A wide variety of sizes to choose from. I dunno if it would improve your situation any more than using acrylic. Its' biggest benefit is workability that is for sure.
