Need I say more?

those are th sexiest ****in rads I've ever seen.

Too bad you can find a better performing (albeit somewhat larger) rad for less than a quarter of the cost.

mkosem 04-12-2002 09:50 PM

the BI Pro has improved performance over the regular bi.

--Matt

Xel 04-12-2002 09:59 PM

That's like saying my $1000 dollar desktop is better than a $3000 dollar laptop, just because my desktop is faster.

mkosem 04-12-2002 10:13 PM

I completely missed what you said, could you please explain? The BI Pro performs significantly better than the origional BlackICE. in terms of core temps, the blackice is very close to a hearcore due to it's design. it just has a smaller thermal capacity(less watts).

--Matt

#Rotor 04-12-2002 10:53 PM

how much watts can those handle?

a small heater core can hold 1.5Kw at just under 60c.... when ventilated correctly

mkosem 04-12-2002 10:55 PM

hmm, 60C is unacceptable. and we know the BI has less heat capacity than heatercores.

--Mstt

#Rotor 04-12-2002 11:09 PM

unexeptable?? .... :)

1.5KW ....

as in 15 100w CPUs or 10 150W CPUs all cooled with a single heater core.......

of coarse I did not use CPU's.... I used a 1.5Kw kettle as the heat source....

I think 57c is actually pretty damn good....

mkosem 04-12-2002 11:20 PM

HAHAHAHA!! that is a great accomplishment for a non-computer. I think I saw pics of that somewhere. I guess if you were cooling a few servers with a single heatercore that would be super swank.

--Matt

#Rotor 04-12-2002 11:31 PM

well, cooling is cooling.... Right ? :) and yes, it is intended to cool down about 6 CPU's eventually..... I'm allready on 4 CPU's hooked up, 2 singles and 1 Duely.... sitting at a cumfortable 25.6c liquid temp.... in a room with 22.3 c air.....

but I'm still in the dark as to how much heat those Bi's can handle... is heat capacity then not the bottom line..... more heat per second out=cooler equilibruim temperatures.

mkosem 04-12-2002 11:35 PM

the fin design really determines the temp. the heat will eventually overcome the rad and it will just get overloaded and the water temp will just keep rising.

what fan are you using for the multi-system?

--Matt

p.s. I am now starting to think of water cooling our bewulf cluster at school if I can get the funds :) heheh, 10 WC via c3's would be nothing for a heatercore. but it'd be a waste since they make like no heat and it'd be enpensive. -- hmm idea gunned down :(

#Rotor 04-12-2002 11:39 PM

twin panaflow 120's

Picture

mkosem 04-12-2002 11:56 PM

nice! are you gonna move those machines to a rack soon or something? and is it for server's?

--Matt

#Rotor 04-13-2002 12:12 AM

Well, it would only be fitting, to have a nice little Cluster live inside a nice little rackmount setup, with cooling that fits in with it's surroundings... :)

Wouldn't want to get OT here... ;)
Before, I wasn't comparing the BI-Pro to the BI-Prime or anything like that, was just stating (implicitly) that it's essentially a riced up, overpriced, rad but a very compact one at that. Allow me to elaborate - the BI series of radiators (P/evo/X) perform very well for their size, but if you're willing to sacrifice a little space you can very easily find a much higher performing heatercore from a wreckers, or for around the same price as a BI-evo get a 1100cc motorbike heatercore that will totally own - see here for BillA's radiator testing from a while back. Having said that, cudos to HWLabs for making a rad well suited to compact watercooling. Perhaps I should have been clearer before. ;)

Btw, a watercooled Folding farm would be sweet as. :p

Brad 04-13-2002 06:09 AM

the red and blue ones look the best ;)

rotor, you should have a rack of computers, all watercooled, with the radiators and pumps in a 4u enclosure

#Rotor 04-13-2002 10:21 AM

I am DC'ing at the moment with all 4 CPU's of mine.... and on top of that, one of them is hosting the website.... my aim is to eventualy have everything nicely configured into a rack.... though it will happen slowly, as these racks are very expensive...

DodgeViper 04-13-2002 12:06 PM

The problem I see with the any of the Black Ice products (rads) is that they do not give enough standoff from the fan to the rad. The center of the rad is not being cooled because of the dead spot found on ALL fans. The fan or fans need to be 1" from the rad.

Brad 04-13-2002 06:17 PM

yeah, they should have a 1" stand off, but many people wouldn't want that, or they'd bitch about which side it's on, or whatever

#Rotor 04-14-2002 10:45 AM

who said it had to be 1" ? :)
I find 7mm to be just as good, besides, in my case, 1" is not going to happen, not if I want it to slide in and out...

Brad 04-14-2002 01:26 PM

my point exactly ;)

most people say 1", then immeditely we have someone saying they want 7mm. the next person to post will want 1.5" or something

#Rotor 04-14-2002 05:21 PM

:) point well made... allthough, in the 7.62mm's deffence..... it had no choice in the matter, it was all that was left, after the lid got put on.... I guess the correct way to put it would be to say, as long as the fan ain't grinding on the rad, and as long as it's shrouded, it's good.....

Brad 04-15-2002 04:05 AM

heh, I know why you picked 7.62mm. You're in the Army, or you're a Redneck :P

If that is your way of thinking then maybe you should check and see if you have much of a flow. The center of a 120mm fan has a large dead space that does not move any air. The closer this fan is against the rad the rad is not going to be cooled where no air is moving. Kind of like a hurricane affect. The center of the eye is calm and the outside edges are very turbulent.
