Benchtop Mill
Okay I sold one of my computers and my G/F is giving me $100 birthday money so I have a little over $500 on hand. I don't want to spend much more than this since I'm tring to get out of CC dept.
So will the milling experts please point my a a good refrence website for manual mini mills. I'm looking at getting the Sherline 5000, but I don't know if this is the best mill for the money. Let me know what you guy's think. Thanks |
With that amount of money, you wont be able to get a CNC mill, but U could possably get a good little manual mill.
Check Ebay first off, or go to www.desktopcnc.com and look at the machine table. |
So CNC means computer n' cad? or something of the sort? Out of curiousity which one do you use fixittt?
|
Cool I saw that website I need to keep diging though.
Any idea for a manual mill site? CNC Computet Number Controled or something like that. |
I use the MAXNC15 open loop system that can be found at the site www.maxnc.com

whats that u told me in jd's forums? bout 2-5 grand for a good quailty cnc mill?
|
NOOO STAY AWAY FROM HARBOR FRIEGHT CHEAP CRAP!
Haddy, what I said was, 2 to 5 grand for a good quality CNC mill setup. Including all the stuff you will need to cut material. Such as vise, collets, endmils, software, material, and any odds and ends that may be needed. But you can get the MANUAL version of jaydee`s SHERLINE for about $600 I beleive, then later you can spend the extra $1000 for the CNC conversion kit. But then you will still have to buy all the rest of the stuff for the machine to make it work. All together I have somewhere in the ball park of $3500 invested in mine. |
I heard the same thing about Harbor Freight.
I think I'm going to get the Sherline for now and when I want a CNC mill I think that the MAXNC 10 or 15 will do nicely but that much later down the line. You can get the Serline for about $550 shipped. http://www.sherline.com/mill.htm Pricelist |
MAX NC 10, NOOOO way to small. 15, good size.
Why not just get the Sherline, then when U want to go CNC get the CNC kit for the sheerline mill U already own. |
yeah I guess thats not a bad idea either
although I'd probably be cheap and go this route. Homemade retrofit. |
