Eh... I'd say yes. Home built computers have so much more love put into them... that's why they work better.

It's all about the <3 :D

Just get one of those nice aluminum Lian Li cases.

Picture it wet sanded, buffed and polished to a mirror finish.

Nothing to it, super fine grit finishing sand paper, followed by a dose of jeweller's rouge. A coat of car wax will keep it from oxidizing when you're done.

It'd look 10 times better than the Sony, you probably have most of the hardware already...so cost won't be a big issue, and you'd have the satisfaction of DIY.

sony vaio's (desktops and notebooks) are made by asus

they still suck though :P

where can I get super fine sandpaper. 600 grit is the finest I can find around town.

ridoutplastics.com had some, up to 2000 grit I think, but it was like $1.50 a sheet.

the VAIO MX series is pretty hot, I want one of them myself.

Also you cant believe what brad said 100% since he heard it from an Asus sales rep... those spinmasters will tell you Asus did all the computers on the Space station if you ask them enough times.

the truth is, many companies work with Sony, since I have seen Micron, Intel, Asus, and even a PCChips board in a VAIO before.

Hell the asus rep even claimed to be a tier 1 Notebook builder which it is NOT. ( its tier 2 if anything) There are only 2 Tier 1 MFG's and both are names I cant pronounce. (the companies that make all Toshiba/sony/compaq/ibm/etc... basicly all the notebooks being sold under different names to specs that the MFG gives them. I believe Quantus is one of them.

Any auto paint supplier will have the sand paper.

NAPA Has It. ...bottom of the page.
Micro Fine 1200, 1500, 2000 grit wet/dry, but it doesn't show how many sheets in a $6.49 pack. I'm sure you can find a body shop that will sell you sheets at cost/cheap.

I'm kinda interested in doing this myself, but I abruptly became unemployed last week. lol

Figures, all the time in the world to tackle a project...but I don't have the money to spend on it

The urge passed over after I called Sony and asked if I could receive a setup w/o any OS & Software. They said. Atleats i Think they did.. those damn 1-800 #'s for /any/ computer company have bad bad bad english. :)

Ben.

hehe, they are probably very clever, but just can't speak anything outside of asian languages

Heavy_Equipment 04-26-2002 09:11 PM

I just read your sig...I don't recall seeing it before.
Forget what I said about you probably having most of the hardware already.:D
