HD waterblock question...
 

I need info on HD waterblocks.. pics, links, etc.
Also, I want to make a "silent drive" enclosure similar to the ones on http://www.quietpcusa.com/acb/showde...t_ID=1&CATID=1 , but I don't want to pay $33 times two hard drives. Has anyone attempted this or know where I could find info?

that is a HD block i made for someone.
but dont ask me to make you one unless you want 3/8" fittings OR you wanna grind down the 1/2" thread and solder them in on your own.
as long as i dont have to put 1/2" fittings on the block, im fine =)

the blocks are 4"x5.5" (same as a HD) but only 1/2" thick

barb holes go down each side.. and are connected across by 4 parallel channels.

also note that the pics show barbs soldered in... that is because of the odd way of attaching 1/2" barbs to a 1/2" block =) (need to make a slightly larger hole, then grind down the threads, then solder in the barbs. (i dont do this :p )


3/8" barbs attach normally (tapped then twisted in, and teflon sealant)

Could one of these blocks be placed between two HDs, and effectively cool them both?

one block could cool both hdd's without any issues at all

unless ur running scsi drivers theres not much point anywyas

they are 60gxps. Problem is, they are noisy, and I wanted to encase them in some sort of sound proof box, so heat would become an issue.

yea, you could cool 2 HDs with it no problem.

the end caps are brass plugs (threaded solid pieces of brass.)

i always leak test the hell out of my blocks (pressurized them with air, then submerge them in water to see if there are leaks.. if no air will leak.. then there is NO way water will), and these plugs are way more than sufficient.


Haddy- im not a store, therfore it is not competiton. If anyone wants a block from me, i do it for the fun of it, and cause it helps the ppl on this board. Im not lookin for profit :p Thats why i have a job :D

DC what about just soldering some 1/2" copper pipe on the ends as fittings?

not sure if that would work.. being that the copper is only 1/2" thick. but i prefer to have barbs either way. i dunno, its really up to whoever wants it.
