Mini-Jet pumps... what's the good word?

I have a couple of these laying around at home and I think I want to use one for my Chilli Pro case just because their form factor is small and they are so quiet. Are these reliable though?
BECooling says this about them:
Quote:

MiniJet 404 Submersible Pump. Combines good pumping capacity with small size. Adjustable flow to 108gph. This pump is extremely quiet and reliable. 120Vac only.
I actually have the 606 version which is 158 gph. I know the flow rate ain't that hot, but it will do just fine in my small setup. My main question is reliability... can anyone confirm/deny what BECooling wrote?

If nobody can answer this one for ya, those pumps are made by Aquarium Systems (you probably knew that though). You should be able to call their tech support line and ask them what the rated lifespan is of those pumps. I'm not sure if they will really know (I wouldn't surprise me), but that might give you a clue.

You can get them before 5pm EST (GMT -5).

Yeah I might do that. I wish they would post more specs like that on their website, but oh well. I'm looking for some hands on experience type feedback as well.

Kevin

I have two of the 404 pumps in the same resivour.
I have used this res and pumps in many different configurations and different home made blocks during the last year and half and they are still working fine.(no it hasn't been 24/7).

They have done a lot of work in that year and half.

For the size and price I am happy.(and yes they are still quiet)

I use this to test for water leaks on my blocks to get what will be the best flow rate for that particular setup and so forth. They have seen suffcient run time and a lot of OFF and ON.

fresno12 - Thanks a lot for your reply! I have the 606 series. Basically the same as you w/ about 50 more gph. Geez i remember I got these with a coupon and they turned out to be like $14.99, but after the discount like $11.99. Sounds like these pumps are absolute steals for that price. Well, keep your eyes peeled for my project in the next couple of weeks.

I know this is a stale thread, but Kev, how did the mini-jet 606 turn out?

I'd like to consider the use of the res from the POS cpufx pump that died on me a long time ago. If nobody has any news on the mini-jet pumps running reliably (didnt suspect that they would since they are so cheap), then I'll just try and figure out how to work things out with an Eheim 1048.

I prefer pumps submerged in a res for easy fills.

thanks

Actually, I never ended up using it for anything except testing stuff. Hasn't died in testing so that's a good thing. Sorry though. I couldnt give you any real-world info like how reliable its been or how its flow was.

Bummer :(

Well, maybe you can help me here. I have that nifty aluminum res left over and I wanted to reuse it. It is 2 3/4" high and has a 3 3/4" diameter. Do you know of any reliable 12V pumps that will fit in there?

I'm looking for a recommendation of a company that makes pumps in a small form factor (small enough to fit in that res and still provide enough flow for 2 cpu blocks through 3/8" tubing.

Must... find... a .. pump ... for the res.....
