Does anyone actually sell a coldplate for a gf4 waterblock, if not...what is everyone using for their gpu pelt setup?

I don't know of anything sold specifically, most people are just buying normal cpu blocks and modifying them to fit into the holes

get yourself a good pelt because mine 46W
(62W@12V) is barely enough.

I have heard bad stories about the mod and the Gainward Ti4600 :(

No problem with my MSI.
Do not know if the rest uses the exact same
reference design. You should avoid as much
heating everything up with long contact between
the soldering iron and the chip. If not you can
damage the chip and/or the card. Nothing for
newbies to try

Just reading through icrontic....seems every card has no prob except the Gainward.

156w on front of GF4, 85w on the back.

85w on the front of the GF3.

And you dont have a problem with condensation building up on the GF3?

(Thinking about getting one of those blocks and putting on a slightly smaller pelt)

Well as you can see there is condensation all over the GF3 plate. But that is because I didn't put any neoprene on it. The GF4 had much better protection neoprene-wise but I didn't put any silicone on it which fried it... ( I didn't notice it melting in one spot)

Are your plates going to have a screwdown method or will we need to clamp?

I'm leaving the hold-down up to the customer. If you want you can drill holes, but some people don't want holes, and I really don't have the time to drill them, or not drill them to each persons order. So they come with no holes.

Cold plates were initially developed because P3 cores would crack if a rapid temperature change occurred. That would slow down the process. However, that was just because of their FCPGA design. You don't need to use a cold plate if you don't want to. they will keep your temps from fluctuating as much, but they are not necessary.

You can put the pelt right on the chip. I did that w/ my old Ti200.

Up to what wattage?

I liked the plate because it cools the GPU and the RAM at the same time. Dont need as muchb cooling on the RAM as you do on the GPU so that looks like a nice setup.

Now I just ahve to justify getting one of those plates..... :)

Allroy - you can check my article on cooling the Kyro II w/ a pelt. I didn't use a cold plate there. I would actually reccommend making a second cold plate just for the RAM as it is very difficult to have that cold plate fit perfcectly. Keep in mind that if it is slightly off in measurements, it will not cool well as the contact will be poor.
