Making my own waterblock
:drool: SwiftTech MCXC270 :drool: Anyways I'm making a water block out of one of these and would like to know your guys' oppinion on this heat sink. Also any tips on making a water block? I'm thinking bout using 3/8" plexi for the walls and roof. I will have to drillout and remove about 3 rows of the helicoid pins for the walls to mount on. naw i think ill go with 1/2" plexi so that ill have enough room to put screws/bolts in to secure it. What should i do to make the plexi & copper joint water proof? what kinda tap do i get for the barbs? not sure wether to use 1/2" or 3/8" tubing. Well this comp aint gonna be done till august so ive got a litlle time to think of stuff. Any tips on building water blocks is greatly appreciated. This is my first water cooling venture. I'm 15 and broke. So I'm working my @$$ off all summer to build this beast. my ideas so far: clear plexi case ( www.acrylicpc.ca ) ASUS A7V KT333 mobo (gotta love that voice post! Leadtek GeForce 4 Ti4600 ( love that front and back one peice heat sink, I'm gonna enclose that in plexi and put input on bottom and exhaust on topside of card with input lined up over top of GPU) Dual loop system where it branches off after pump and then meets back when entering rad. Blue black ice extreme mounted on front of case with two clear 120's, one blowing and one sucking. 3 stick of crucial 256 DDR RAM. apple pro keyboard and this sweet clear mouse i found that has glowing blue scroll whell. umm that bout it off top of my mind. ive figured price of everything to be round $1,900 :eek: gonna check out some trade shows over summer and see what kinda deals i can pick up. oh yeah! clear tubes with UV reactive dye and a small black light CCFL in there and a noritake 2x20 VFD with some blue gell sheet ticking off temps, winamp, etc. waht do ya guys think? WAIT!! what kinda clamp is good for socket A XP2000 or XP2100?

A more secure method would be to use copper sheet, say 1-2mm thick, bend it up into a box that fits over the heatsink, and solder all the joins up, then you won't have to remove any pins.
I don't think there is a secure way to glue plexi to copper, nothing that I'd trust anyway... |
hmm lemme clarify... i was gonna use sumthin like a o-ring and have it in a notch in the plexi. then drill out holes in the bottom of the block and MAKE SURE THEY ARE FLUSH WITH THE BOTTOM!!! I must keep that in mind. and the o-ring and screw/bolt idea should keep it water tight. the is a clear case. dont want some ugly copper box on my CPU. www.swiftnets.com go there. and look for MCXC370 isnt that a sweet looking heat sink? why cover it up?plus glowing UV reactive coolant running between the pins would look sooooo cool!

oh yeah and i would NEVER think of gluing plexi to copper.. glue and heat and water DONT MIX! lol at the person who tries it!

make sure the barbs extend down to 10mm or so off the base, otherwise the water won't flow to the bottom.
