Why don't they build a 3D card with a ram slot on the back?
That would be sweet, a DDR slot on the back (top) of the card.
You could slap the newest, fastest ram on there, or even just upgrade it. Things that make you go hmmm. |
i've never thought about that, but it would be very cool.
i don't think it would work though, the memory on newer video cards is like 3.8 ns, ram isn't rated that fast.. |
I'd settle for 6ns DDR400 :D
|
Yeah, the speed is the main problem. And I don't quite know what the latency on a Graphics card is.
I would, however, enjoy putting a Gig of ram on a graphics card! :D Not that it wouldn't be overkill or anything :p |
more often than not the GPU is limited to the amount ram it can handle, for example the parhelia can only handle 256mb.

remember the 90s :)
all the old über POS ati cards had ram slots to 'upgrade' them. - like the rage II cards all had ram upgrades. point was so ati could rip ppl off... er wait... let u buy and extra 4mb sdram chip and get 24bit 2d on a 'big' 1600/1200 monitor. 'tis sad ram upgrades arnt industry standard now-aday. well...good that we don't need a bloody upgrade to get 24bit 1600/1200 2D |
In the time when "ISA" and "VLB" where high end, almost all video cards had ram slots for upgrading.
|
it'd be impracticle due to the trace length, and the connector. I really doubt it would work
|
lol...I was just "what if-ing".
I fried my video card. and I'm stuck using an ATI mach64 2mb until I come up with some cash. |
