pc800 to pc1086 issues

Ok, i have an abit th7-2 mobo with a 1.8a@2.4 and the fsb is 134.
The system runs rock solid at that but the ram is underclocked at 300mhz so it acutally runs at 400mhz. I want to run it at 533mhz but my system locks all the time after prolonged use. I put an 80mm fan over the ram so I dont think its due to heat. They are two 128mb samsung and two 256mb samsung rimms, both having the blue heat spreaders. Any ideas?

voltage mod with a 50KOhm pot
its the same voltage regulator chip as the KG7
just do a google search

mine did 120 x 4 at 2.5V
now it does 137 x 4 at 2.8V

ok, did a search but it came out empty
got some linkage?

as he just said, they use the same Vram chip. Also consider that you might want to try running two sticks at once instead of all 4 sticks

p0b0y 06-12-2002 08:33 AM

should i use the 256mb sticks cuz they are double sided?

Brad 06-12-2002 01:33 PM

try the 2x256, then try the 2x128 just to give them each a go, and see what happens

p0b0y 06-14-2002 08:37 AM

aw, still no good
you think if i just bought some 1066 that that would solve my o/c problems?

ambient 06-14-2002 09:47 AM

have you checked the mounting of the NB heatsink? It could be loose and or not making good contact.

p0b0y 06-14-2002 06:27 PM

naw, the temps are good at 133fsb(35c full load)

Brad 06-15-2002 04:55 AM

what drcg's do you have in there?

p0b0y 06-15-2002 08:05 AM

the originals, kinda scary to change them

Brad 06-15-2002 04:00 PM

i'd say that because you get 256mb and 128mb sticks to the exact same speed, it is your drcg's that are failing. try adding some heatsinks to them, and see what you get

p0b0y 06-16-2002 12:00 PM

ill have to try that, cuz my system will boot, but i get general system instability, you know, dropping to windows whenever i do something besides surf

Which bios are you running? Mr Naturals TH7H_7D is what I use. He has all of his bios posted here, http://www.n3dt.com/drivers/bios/abit/th7ii/

Also I suggest only running the two single sided rdram sticks in the slots closest to the cpu and have your fan blow onto the sticks as well as the drcgs which are very close by, put the fan close to them. What is the date marking on the memory?
Older sticks don't overclock that good to PC1066. Mine say Samsung Korea 0151 which means week 51 of the year 2001.

p0b0y 06-17-2002 10:13 AM

id have to looksy, but ill get some heatsinkage on the drcg's
