monitor questions...

Anyone know anything about NEC's superbright Diamondtron display monitors? I am looking at all sorts of monitors, and this sound like one that I would like the most. It's a flat screen, and it's not too expensive, about the same as the ones with the flat aperature grille. supposedly though, those have the two lines running through the display, though small I know they would just drive me mad I'm just picky like that. so I guess my question is does the diamondtron display have those lines as well?

I'm sitting in front of a Sony Trinitron 21" right now. You cannot see the apature lines unless the following conditions apply.

1, you have a lighter solid color background
2, you're conciously aware that you have those lines on the moniter, and you are looking for them.

I hardly ever notice them, unless someone posts a question like this, then I see them. However, when I'm done answering this question, and forget about the lines, I don't notice the lines any more.

I fully reccomend the Diamondtrons, as they are of the same quality as the Sonys.

i have an iiyama monitor, which uses the Mitsubishi Diamondtron flat-CRT (it is a flat aperture grill CRT btw). the two lines are actually thin wires that are needed to stabalize the vertical grill wires. you will not notice them unless the conditions Webmasta stated are met. these two wires are on ALL aperture-grill CRTs.

if you are looking for a new monitor, iiyama, sony, viewsonic and NEC / mitsubishi would be the ones id recommend. get a flat-CRT (aperture grill) monitor as well, as they produce *slightly* sharper lines and brighter colors than shadow-mask CRTs.

also try to get the best monitor in its class (for example, if you want a 17 inch, get one with a max resolution of 1600x1200 @ 75hz or greater). its something you'll be using for years; dont skimp!!

I also have a sony (19") trinitron and you can see the lines but they're there for the reasons Cyco-Dude pointed out and are only visible in the conditions webmasta said. It's a small price to pay for a truly flat screen.:D
