Eheim pumps and all those crazy attachments

So I have my Eheim 1250 and I'm wondering if I can ditch all the unnecessary parts. I can't really figure out what I would need them for. Theres the grey plastic cover, I'm sure that could go and the blue filter, I don't need that (I don't even know how that is supposed to work, it goes around the intake, not over it...) In other words, can I just thread in 2 adapters and leave it at that?

yup.

the filter and plug are for a submersible operation.
you take out the intake barb, add the filter & plug and submerse.

you can get rid of them if ya want.
