Foamy water??????

I have been noticing that my water will begin to turn foamy after a week or so of use. Anyone know what causes this?

Using distilled water + water wetter

What all is in your system? Parts? How is it setup?

ambient 06-20-2002 10:24 AM

do a search for foamy water. looks like its from air in your system. at least that is what 2 others had experienced.

Do you have an air trap or a res ? How the return line comes into that res / trap ? Is there any turbulence ?

Cyco-Dude 06-20-2002 07:56 PM

it could be the WW.............

jtroutma 06-21-2002 11:25 PM

I had foam once in my res. Turned out that with my res. setup so that the intake line was placed above the water line and WW in the coolant, the stuff would foam. I ignored it for a day and it jsut got worse. Tried capping the res. off to control the foam and cracked the bottle :)

Solution:

Moved the intake beneath the water line in the res.

Problem solved.

Make sure that you are not getting any air in the lines or causing enough turbulance to get air mixed into the coolant.

yes.. the new danger den res I got a few weeks ago seems to be the problem. my system pumps way too much water for this res. there are tons of bubbles and water shoots from the inlet to the back of the res causing too many bubbles which get sucked into the outlet. I was using a weather tight 4S box last time and didn't have this problem since the inlet and outlet were at the bottom of that res. The danager den res is cool looking but the holes are iin the wrong place to make it work effectively.

Config right now
DD Maze2 <----- soon to be TC-4
1050 pump
dtek pro rad w/ dual 120mm fans @ 7volts
DD res <------ going back to the weather tight 4S box
silicon tubing <--------Tygon shipped today!!

Rick this DD Res is it the 3" by 3" new cube?

I can not find any pics of it but it looks to me like it's way too small for a high flow system!

I would ask for your money back!

webmedic 06-24-2002 09:27 AM

Finaly some info that is usable. When I first stated to make my systems I tried the inline pump with a res type of system. The results?

You will always get foam in you system. Either use a resevore with the pump mounted in it ( this will get rid of bubbles nicely and is easy to fill) or get rid of the resevore. The reason for this is that the the pumps produce to much turbulance in the res and therefore cause bubbles in your system. I've tried many different ways of doing this and the only way is to get rid of the res.

...or to come up with a good res that works...

gmat 06-24-2002 09:42 AM

or to mount the inlet properly on a tube-like res (i.e. either tangent, or using a T ala turbokeu). Tangent mount will produce a little vortex if you add a nozzle.

The inside diameter of the fittings on the Danger Den res is too small. Larger inlet/outlet diameters will reduce the agitation in the res by reducing the water velocity.

RickCain 06-24-2002 10:24 AM

I agree that the res is way too small. 3" x 3" sounds about right. I was trying to get rid of all of the 90's in my system but might have created too much flow. The res has an outlet in the top 1/2 of the cube and the inlet is in the bottom 1/2 of the cube. The water is coming out with such force it splashes against the back of the cube causing bubbles. I will find a good use for it some day.

:(
